I was just curious what everyone thought about this latest Tiger Woods hub-bub going on?

I think that as usual the Media has blown this fully out of proportion. The guy has tried to remain private for most of his career up to now and has been forced to air his dirty laundry in public. He is now fully embedded in a public battle.

I think it is very sad. A person should be allowed a certain amount of privacy. Yet, when someone with his level of fame acts out as apparently he has, what should he expect?

It is a two sided sword. His public persona would require him to keep it on the down low. Yet, at the same time a person with his fame level would owe a certain amount of credibility to the public.

I am torn between the two.

I guess I feel the same as I have about most athletes whose affairs have been revealed. It has no bearing on their professional competition. I hate the media coverage. I personally don't care about their indiscretions and feel it's between the players and their wives to work out.

On the other hand...these guys live and die by media coverage. They certainly don't have a problem with media overexposure when it's positive and glorifies them.

Once you attain celebrity status, you forfeit the privacy you had previously enjoyed. It's just a question of how much.

Tiger is a young man who became a superstar as a teenager. It's hard enough for a mature adult to adjust to that status, much harder for a kid. I've said before that this doesn't justify that kind of behavior, but it's still easy to understand that super-celebs are never allowed to mature and learn how to handle life situations on their own. Kobe Bryant is another example. These kids get handed the world on a platter at age 17. They marry young, have children, and then get busted for an affair.

So as far as having mixed emotions, I'm with you, River.

Reading both of these posts there are some very reasonable comments, and I'm with both of you about this. Some coverage by the media is necessary but not like this. I'm really sick of it.

I don't think he has anything to complain about, given the situation he's gotten himself into. I do feel for his children. They are very young and don't know what's going on, but it's really sad they're having to go through this. Our family has always liked Tiger so this is shattering news to us. I shouldn't be surprised by anything anymore, because it takes extra strength to avoid as much temptation as these athletes have these days.

The latest I have heard about is a possible connection to PED's in some sort or another. I could spend time doing a search for an article to link it to, but in the grand scheme of things, it doesn't really matter, does it?

I think Tiger pretty much wanted things his way. I think he wanted his privacy, and wanted people to respect it; but yet, he made himself a very public persona via endorsements. He wanted the best of both worlds, in more ways than one. As two Stanford alums that were very proud of Tiger, I have to say that my husband and I are VERY disappointed in his secret lifestyle and his disregard for his marital vows and his lack of family values and the importance they seem not to play in his life. He stated more than once that his family was the most important thing to him. I think he tried to say the things people wanted to hear and do exactly what he wanted to do, and wanted no one to find out his secrets.

If Elin did indeed hit him with a golf club, he deserved to be hit with the entire bag of clubs. One at a time. Only joking now, but he is just lucky she did not decide to be a rich widow.
