I've been saying for awhile that I would be away from the board starting in February, and here is what's happening with me. To cut to the chase, I am taking a leave of absence from work for 6 months which might extend longer depending on what happens. Danny's mom's caregiver suddenly died and now she wants someone from the family to take care of her. She isn't "sick," but she has multiple disabilities and can't get around well. She rarely leaves her house. His dad left them enough money to pay well, when he died back in 2007. I guess I should feel flattered she considers me one of her "family" even though I'm not blood related. The good thing is she lives in an area one could call borderline resort with quite a view of beaches from a house on a hill. The bad thing is it's in a more remote area of B.C. which is not served too good by Internet access. You can get Internet but dial-up and when we were there before, the service was very very slow. You could hardly check and respond to email without getting frustrated. Since the web service is that bad you can probably guess the cell service isn't so hot either. When we were down there for awhile last summer, you all may remember I wasn't posting. Well, down there I would have more access to a computer - granted it's a few generations ago but not much luck in posting. I might occasionally try to post but I don't think it would be very much. When I tried before, sometimes I would get a nice post written and then we'd lose the connection. More than anything I would be keeping in touch by email during this time.
The exciting thing is Danny will try and get me set up with a family friend of theirs with la floristeria and put my knowledge to work. Let's see if anything will come out of that. I could be making some money there and money taking care of Lourdes, too. So if everything works out right I will end with more money than I came with. Let's hope so.
So, you will not hear from me much over that time frame. If anything, the sporadic trips I would make back up here would be when I would post. I would have to time those well but they would not be happening too much. It might be awhile before you hear anything from me again. I'm not sure if I will make it back up for Opening day at Dodger Stadium. I will miss the Carlsbad flower fields too. Then I might also surprise you all from time to time when you aren't expecting it. I just wanted to let everyone know what was going on for now though. Will talk to everyone sometime later. Especially DB, I will try and keep in better touch with you.

Thanks for explaining what is going on Sunnyblue. You will be missed by the group but we all understand being there for family and even though you aren't blood related Danny's mother obviously considers you family I'm sure it will mean alot to her having someone she feels close to stay with her vs hiring someone she wouldn't know very well.
DB will keep us informed of how things are going and if you can post here or email if the internet down there permit it, it would be great to hear from you.
You will be in our thoughts and I'm sorry I won't get to meet you (this time around anyway) but I am certainly wishing you and Danny's mom the best in the following months. _________________ "If you had a son it would be a great thing for him to grow up to be just like Gil Hodges" -Pee Wee Reese (Brooklyn Dodgers) |

I've known it was coming but we will sure miss you! I do hope things work out for you at the floristeria. I was surprised you were getting to take a leave just as Valentine's week was approaching! Lol
I know we will get updates from you somehow and we'll hear from you here at some point. Enjoy the new adventure and meanwhile, we will carry on. _________________ "Baseball is an allegorical play about America, a poetic, complex, and subtle play of courage, fear, good luck, mistakes, patience about fate, and sober self-esteem." - Saul Steinberg |

Wooohooo I'm here! for a short time that is! It's been only 3 weeks but it sure feels like longer. I have been learning so much and getting so used to living in a small town which is quite remote! I'm anxious to get some time to spend with my family over the next couple of days. We have a quinceaƱera tomorrow night which Cathy is helping us with (thank you Cathy!) and my brother took my nieces and nephews to the Disney all nighter last night. They said it was quite an experience! Wish I could have joined everyone. I will try a few times over the next couple of days to see what's been going on here in between doing some family things and taking care of some business up here. |

Thank you I'm glad to be here for a couple of days. I do appreciate your nice words and thoughts. Lourdes is great to live with and Danny comes down every couple of weeks. But I miss my own family and the conveniences of being here. |
