When the overall attendance numbers are listed for the 2021 season, they'll be noticeably down from what they most likely would have tallied in a regular 162-game season with full capacity, due to most ballparks opening with limited capacity in the early weeks of the '21 campaign.

But there are some curious observations. Why are the Jints--who've not only led the NL West division for the majority of the season, but have also boasted the best record in Major League Baseball most of that time--drawing so few fans compared to past successful seasons?

The Dodgers, as expected, are leading the NL in attendance as they usually do. This year, there's all the more reason for their attraction, given they're defending world champions. They'll miss passing the three million mark thanks to the limited capacity I mentioned earlier, but would be on track to draw perhaps 3.7-3.8 million under normal circumstances.

The Padres are way up in attendance, buoyed by a playoff appearance last year and early season promises of success. Unfortunately, those fizzled in the second half of the season, but fans purchased tickets based on the superstar drawing power of El NiƱo and other big name players comprising a team that was lined up to compete for the division and hopefully beyond. That didn't happen, but the bottom line is looking good.

These were just a few comments I wanted to make, but the Jints attendance in particular is confounding. Are fans still being more cautious due to COVID? The Battery Chuckers have taken some pretty strict precautions, but somehow they just don't pack them in like they used to.

That is true, our attendance went way up based on the way they played last year (even though it was a short season) - but they started out so good this year, too. We should have been better rewarded. Sad As for the Battery Chuckers I wonder what is going on with that? Back in their great years they sold out every game. Maybe it just has to do with the way everything is so uncertain these days.
