Best wishes to Kevin Pillar! He was hit by a pitch to the face last night and hospitalized!

Pillar sure picked himself up from that. He is really tough!

Out of fairness to the Mariners I have to say they had some COVID cases which caused concern for them during their series here this weekend.

I am pretty sure you ladies must have seen the collision between Padres LFer Tommy Pham and SS Ha-Seong Kim in Wednesday's game at Wrigley Field. It looked a lot worse than it ended up being. Pham ended up getting stitches and Kim avoided a concussion - article from padres.com

The comments from our manager Jayce Tingler:

Quote:
Tingler called the play “the perfect storm,” citing the placement of the ball, the language barrier between Kim and Pham and the loud fans at Wrigley Field.

I was wondering before I read this about the language issues but he is right that the fans created that atmosphere. I would like to see our fans do the same to visiting teams.

I'm glad they're okay; it looked pretty bad!

Speaking of favorite former Padres, I noticed Phil Nevin has returned from his COVID leave.

Nats pitcher Austin Voth got hit by a pitch in the face by Phillies pitcher Vince Velasquez, and broke his nose, in today's game at Citizens Bank Park. Here's the link. Must have hurt something awful. I hope he has a quick recovery. Pitchers have got to be tough especially when at the plate. Smile

Yes, I saw that, and also the minor league pitcher who was hit in the face.

Best wishes from this Dodger fan to Jints broadcaster Duane Kuiper, who is undergoing chemotherapy treatment.

Best wishes to Indians outfield Josh Naylor, who was injured during a collision in right field in Sunday's game vs. the Twins. Cleveland was visiting Minnesota when the fourth inning mishap occurred. Naylor was diagnosed with fracture and dislocation of his right ankle.

Sending best wishes to Indians manager Terry Francona. He is on a leave of absence for the rest of the season, for health reasons. Article from mlb.com

Yes, I heard about that, and wish him well, too. I didn't realize until something I read about him recently that he's the same age as me (well, a few months difference).

Anyway, talk about clueless? I'm sure this was mentioned last week when the Dodgers pulled off their big trade, but obviously it went over my head.

I knew that the Nationals had a second COVID outbreak affecting some players. I didn't realize until yesterday that Trea Turner was one of them. I wondered why he hadn't arrived or wasn't in the lineup yet. Duh.

Also, Donnie Softball, the Marlins manager, is being treated for COVID.

Not the only Yankee, either--catcher Gary Sánchez, too, per this article.

Must be a battery thing.

Being on the Yankees is contagious.

The latest to test positive is NYY first baseman Anthony Rizzo.

I guess now is where we switch from COVID back to line drives striking pitchers in the face. Oakland RHP Chris Bassitt had that happen to him last night at Guaranteed Rate Field in the second inning of their game they lost to the White Sox. He is out of the hospital now but will require surgery on his cheek bone. Article from mlb.com

The Battery Chuckers now have 2 pitchers on the COVID list, one is Madera and the other is Johnny Cueto.

I wish no harm to any other players, even if they are Battery Chuckers. Smile But, sheesh, have you noticed all the Red Sox players who've tested positive? Kiké was one, during the series in Cleveland over the weekend, and then Christian Arroyo, followed by relievers Matt Barnes, Martín Peréz and Josh Taylor. As of today, the latest out of the bullpen to test positive is Hirokazu Sawamura. Among coaching staff members, quality control coach Ramón Vázquez, first base coach Tom Goodwin, and strength and conditioning coach Kiyoshi Momose are quarantining.

And if you need further details, you can probably find them here.

Now you can add Red Sox infielder Yairo Muñoz to that list - article from CBS sports

The crazy thing is, he was just a call up to replace other injuries.

I was surprised Chris Sale was unvaccinated.

At the same time Dodgers broadcaster Joe Davis is vaccinated but has contracted a mild case, and will not announce the rest of the regular season while he quarantines. Here's the link.

Best wishes to Joe, and I wonder if Orel will come out of this OK.

All the best to Joe, of course!

Does it seem like every team in the majors is affected by COVID anymore? The Dodgers have been fortunate this season (and perhaps, smart).

Best wishes to Charlie Morton, who's been lost for the World Series after being hit by a line drive in Game 1.

That was very unfortunate, happening so early in the game and the series. Best wishes to Charlie, though.
