Well, it only took me a year to respond, Cathy! Embarassed Somehow I missed your post from August, 2013. However, my memory is still good, and I know he did. And I'm sure he will again tonight, since today is the milestone 75th anniversary of the first televised major league game. I'm just glad the Dodgers play within the division tonight so he's behind the mic.

And keep in mind that it was 12 years ago today, that MLB.TV was launched. So when you're watching one of the 15 televised major league games tonight, you can remember just how modest the beginnings of this medium, that we take for granted, were.

Lol! So I guess the Dodgers won again. This is quite the milestone.

Today is the 76th anniversary.

Appropriately, the Dodgers are playing the Reds. Smile But, since they're in Cincinnati, Vinnie isn't with the team to talk about this anniversary during tonight's broadcast. Sad

The Dodgers did not win on the anniversary this year. Sad

And there is something bittersweet about Vin's "On This Day in Dodger History" segment since it's the last time he'll ever mention this broadcast milestone.

I am sure that would be bittersweet!

This is the first bump of this thread since Vin's retirement last year...obviously I fell asleep on the job last Saturday night, but I wonder if Dodgers baseball on TV will never not make me want to hear him again?

In any case, still proud of the Dodgers' part in this technological advancement.

I watched the Padres/Marlins game that day. Not a memorable game. But the anniversary of the first game on TV is one that is worth remembering!

Dodgers win, but in Dodger Stadium this time, not Ebbets Field. And their opponent was the Padres, not the Reds.

Yesterday was the 80th anniversary of that Dodgers-Reds game!

And last month, the Dodgers and Phillies became the first teams to be featured in a Youtube/MLB game.

Well, Cathy, I hope there is no repeat of last year's loss tonight on this all-important anniversary! Razz

Just think, from network TV in 1939 to Spectrum Sports and Youtube games, even, in 2020.

So on the day that would be the anniversary, the 2 teams who played in the first game on TV did not play at all. I bet that was a first.

It's the 82nd anniversary of the first televised baseball game, a classic moment that predates us all, and the Dodgers "got the memo." They won, beating the Padres, 4-0, in Petco Park. Very Happy

So, 2 of the last 4 years, the Dodgers have beaten the Padres on August 26. That works for me. Smile

In the first observation of this broadcast anniversary since the passing of Vin Scully, it took on special meaning tonight. The Dodgers did win on the road, 10-5, in Miami, but all I could do was pause and give thanks that Red mentored him, and Vin had a place in our hearts for so many years.

Red Barber and Vin Scully were broadcasters who kept fans entertained for over 90 years altogether. I'm proud they were Dodger voices!

I watched my Padres win, on TV, the night of this anniversary. Unfortunately that was the last time they won. Sad

The Dodgers lost in Fenway Park today. Sad Still, I watched numerous games on TV between the LLWS and MLB from morning to night--so it was an appropriate way to commemorate this anniversary.
