I learned while watching yesterday's Cardinals game that today is the 75th anniversary of the end of prohibition and the beginning of the Budweiser Clydesdales. Found the below paragraph at Anheuser-Busch.com
It was in 1933, shortly after the signing of the Cullen-Harrison Act – effectively ending national Prohibition for beer – when the Budweiser Clydesdales became a part of Anheuser-Busch. August A. Busch Jr. and Adolphus Busch III decided to present a hitch of the mighty horses to their father to commemorate the first bottle of post-Prohibition beer brewed in St. Louis.
I guess I misunderstood the anniversary date of the end of prohibition. Yesterday I heard on the game broadcast that it was the same day as the gift of the horses. |

| Ya gotta love the clydesdales! Whenever I would take friends on the brewery tour in st louis, I would tell them the clydesdales stables were nicer than several apartments I lived in in NYC. |

| I hope they never stop playing that song at Busch. Sandi I thought I also heard on the same broadcast about some celebration that they are having. Did you hear anything about it? |

I can't answer for Sandi, but I'm curious, did they ever have one?
I thought of you ladies the last time I was at Sea World! The Clydesdales seem to have a few West Coast connections. 
The next will be an event that takes place on January 1, 2009. That's right, the Rose Parade.
According to the L.A. Times, their 75th anniversary will be honored in the 120th presentation of the Tournament of Roses, with the theme of "Hats Off the Entertainment."

The City of St. Louis celebrates the 75 years that the renowned Clydesdale team has provided entertainment for audiences throughout the country – and for decades around the world, as viewed annually on January 1 in the Rose Parade.
The next generation of the Clydesdale team is represented on the float with the inclusion of a young colt on the float.
FLOWERING:
The wagon is decorated with fine cut red strawflower and features black seaweed wheels with accents of fine ground rice and spokes of ground rice and kidney beans.
The center fountain features water created with light and dark iris and lavender statice.
The front and rear arches are decorated with fine cut red statice, and feature “stained glass” windows of purple, hot pink, light green and yellow gladiolus petals.
The sculpted horses accenting the front arch are covered with fine crushed walnut shell, bronze strawflower, ground onion seed and powdered rice.
The base of the float is highlighted with roses, daisies, carnations and iris in bright yellow, white, lavender, blue and orange.
Number of Years in Rose Parade: 56
Carlota “Lotsie” Busch Webster introduced the City of St. Louis float and the Clydesdales to the Rose Parade in 1953.
The City of St. Louis float has won many awards throughout its more than half century of participation in the Rose Parade, most recently the 2005 Judges’ Special Award for “Outstanding Showmanship and Dramatic Impact.” |

That is pretty interesting. Triple Crown had a party that night too, to mark that important anniversary. LOL.
I enjoy reading fun stories about history like that. I'm surprised none of you ladies back there posted about them throwing out the first pitch! That would have been fun to see.
