For those who don't know, my husband Brock is a huge Springsteen fanATIC. That is how he met St. Louis Post-Dispatch writer, Bernie Miklasz, also a big "Boss" fan -- while waiting line for roughly 24-36 hours in Milwaukee 6 or 7 years ago. We are also both musicians and are attempting to raise our 8-year-old son Preston to be one. I posted this concert "review" on another forum and thought some here might enjoy it as well.
The Springsteen concert was incredible...even for the fringe fan like me. I can't believe a dude that's going to be 59 next month can exude that much energy. He had the whole place rocking from about a quarter to nine until well after midnight. Amazing.
We were in the pit up in front of the stage, though toward the back (of the pit). We enjoyed partying with Bernie Miklasz during the encore. He places it in the top 10 of the nearly 120 Springsteen concerts he's seen. Brock's at least as big a fanatic as Bernie, but has only seen 26 shows. He says if this one wasn't the best he's ever seen, it's at least top 3.
The show was delayed an hour and fifteen minutes as doctors tended to Clarence Clemens backstage, though I've not heard any other details about the medical emergency.
Tony La Russa was in the house.
As is his custom, Bruce brought a roughly 14/15-year-old girl up on stage during Dancing in the Dark. She was terrific...even blowing him a kiss as he dropped her in her father's arms at the end.
Bruce dedicated a couple of songs...including the very last one of his one hour encore...to someone named Sophie. Apparently Sophie is roughly 80-years-old and used to live in Jersey. When Bruce was struggling early on in his career, she took him in and housed him. She lives in the STL area now and he supposedly not only gets her prime seats when he's in town, but also makes sure to swing by her house for a meal.
She was "Twisting & Shouting" with the rest of us in the a.m. hours.
Preston did a great job singing and dancing along with the songs he knew. We're certainly exposing him to both ends of the spectrum with a Trace Adkins concert last weekend and "The Boss" concert this weekend. |

I heard Bernie talking about the concert all day Friday on The Roll Home and heard that Tony was also going. I thought that you might be going too. After this Friday you will have been to 3 concerts in 3 weeks. I know you don't know much about Martina McBride but we will have fun. Glad you had fun partying. Remind Brock he saw that great concert in STL |

I saw The Boss in 1979 at St. Bonaventure College for the Darkness on the Edge of Town tour, in front of 3000 people. The next time I saw him was in 1985 at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum for the Born in the USA tour in front of 91,000 people. Both shows were awesome. I am always amazed too, that he can make a crowd go completely silent, sit quietly and listen to one of his stories. Doesn't matter if it's 3,000 people or 91,000 people. |
