I know this is a bit disturbing: Padres infielder Everth Cabrera will stand trial for domestic violence in Arizona, in two weeks.

The incident in question took place in March.

Sad I guess we can wait to hear the facts come out and hope they do come out.

That is good news!!! I have heard of cases like this where the woman started the brawl but the man gets charged with assault even though he was only defending himself. I think society is so conditioned to think it's always the man's fault when there is physical abuse. Just my opinion.

Wow! Hall of Famer Eddie Murray has been charged with insider trading, along with Doug DeCinces. DDC was one of my favorite players way back in the day!

Murray was just honored last week and I'll post about that later.

It is sad that so many players live one life in public and another in private.

And the first DUI in awhile went to...Yankees pitcher Michael Pineda, arrested on Monday in Tampa, where he had been rehabbing from surgery earlier this season.

Awhile back it was K-Rod. Now it's F-Rod--charged with domestic abuse, which, according to MLB.com, was "the result of an alleged scuffle with his fiancée in September."

More from the above-linked article:

Quote:
...police say that Rodriguez struck his fiancée after she accused him of cheating on her. The alleged incident occurred in the early hours of September 18 at Rodriguez's home in Wales, Wis., a town about 25 miles west of Miller Park.

Ho, ho, ho and a Merry Christmas to you, too, Andruw Jones!

The former major leaguer was arrested on Christmas morning and charged with battery following a domestic dispute at his Atlanta area home. Jones has signed to play in Japan next season.

And this happened just as Ugueth Urbina was released from a Venezuelan prison. The former MLB pitcher served seven years of a 14-year sentence on attempted murder charges. He last played in the majors in 2005, the same year as the incident which resulted in his conviction.

So, one of the two or three Jints players I actually like gets into minor trouble--sheesh. Not that I should care but I've always seen him as one of the nice guys on the team, and he always has been (I just hate seeing him get outs!) Pitcher Sergio Romo was detained at the Las Vegas airport after a hassle over ID. He had probably had a little over his limit.

Now, I'll get in my dig, about his statement.

Quote:
..."I love and respect the Giants, my teammates and our fans and promise to conduct myself in the future in the "San Francisco Giants Way."

Which "way" would that be, cheating via PEDs, sign stealing, or watering down? Just wondering...

Nice going, Justin. Dodgers utility player was arrested for reckless driving in Sacramento.

Wowee--another DUI. This time, it's Rockies superstar slugger Todd Helton.

All this just days after Diamondbacks broadcaster/former player Mark Grace was sentenced to jail for his DUI last year, pleading guilty to felony endangerment/misdemeanor DUI.

Cubs pitcher Carlos Marmol is in hot water in the D.R. involving a domestic dispute case. Or, at least lukewarm water--the Cubs say he will be reporting to camp in Arizona "late Sunday" (that is, like right now).

Another DUI--Red Sox pitching prospect Drake Britton was arrested near Ft. Myers, FL, after speeding at 111 MPH, and was charged with DUI, DUI property damage and reckless driving.

Now, if that was your heater, it'd be fine...

Another DUI: Brewers pitcher Yovani Gallardo was seen driving erratically past Miller Park.

From MLB.com:

Quote:
Fran McLaughlin, Milwaukee County Sheriff's Department spokesperson, said that Gallardo registered a .22 blood alcohol level, nearly three times Wisconsin's legal limit of .08. A first-time offense for operating while intoxicated is not a criminal offense in Wisconsin, so Gallardo was arrested, ticketed and later released.

...According to McLaughlin, a driver phoned 911 at about 2:10 a.m. CT on Tuesday to report Gallardo's black Ford F-150 varying between 40 mph and 70 mph and deviating between lanes as it headed southbound on Highway 41 and merged onto westbound Interstate 94 at Miller Park. A deputy moved into position behind Gallardo, who pulled to the side of the highway near 84th Street before the deputy had activated his lights or siren.

Gallardo told the officer he had been drinking beer at Leff's Lucky Town, a popular bar for Brewers fans in Wauwatosa. He performed poorly on a field sobriety test, McLaughlin said, and was administered a preliminary breath test on the scene, which recorded a .22. Gallardo was arrested at 2:30 a.m. and taken to a Sheriff's Department substation in the area for a more accurate test. Again, he registered .22.

As a matter of practice meant to deter repeat offenders, McLaughlin said that the department books all alleged drunk drivers. Gallardo was booked into the downtown jail under his legal name -- Yovani Gallardo-Zaragoza -- at 4:25 a.m. and released at 6:25 a.m. His truck had been towed, so he was picked up and driven home.

Gallardo was issued a $300 ticket for operating while intoxicated-first offense, with an additional $300 ticket because of the level of intoxication and a $178.80 ticket for lane deviation. In addition, he will have to have an interlock ignition device installed on his vehicle.

.22??? And he did only two hours time? And a first-time offense is not a criminal offense?

Wow.

Well, based on his comments, he is sincerely remorseful.

That's very high - he's lucky, it could have been much worse.

I guess when your team name is the "Brewers" you might get off more lightly though. I do remember how a few years ago the Cardinals had so many DUIs and alcohol related incidents. A player died, the manager was busted for drunk driving, other players were too, all over the course of 2 or 3 years. That sounds like a culture of problems with alcohol but then their team has long been associated with a brewing family too.

Not saying I'm against brewers at all as I am getting ready to have a few cold ones myself in awhile Very Happy - just more in favor of responsible drinking.

So, no alcohol involved, but Yasiel was arrested in Tennessee over the weekend on charges of speeding, reckless driving, and driving without proof of insurance.

Details from MLB.com are here.

Indians reliever Chris Perez and his wife have been charged with marijuana possession.

Yeah, okay, but...from MLB.com:

Quote:
During Wednesday's news conference, Rocky River Police Chief Kelly Stillman indicated there had been previous problems at the same address for "quite a volley of incidents," but those matters involved prior tenants.

"There were a lot of things that happened at that home," said Stillman, referring to the time period before the Perezes moved into it. "We've been to that home on numerous occasions."

So why bring it up if it was before the Perezes moved there?

Question

Well, here's something beyond your run-of-the-mill DUI (not minimizing the seriousness of a DUI--just that so many players end up involved in them).

He may not have the household name like Ryan Braun, but Rangers pitcher Tanner Scheppers is embroiled in a controversy in which a reported incident seems not to be what it was said to be. Scheppers claimed he was attacked on the street while the team was in Cleveland. Police say that's not what happened, and the investigation continues.

That goes to show you what happens when you try to cut corners on the story! Mad He lost a bar fight - I wonder if he really thought nobody would figure that out. I am embarrasssed, but I used to like him.

So, this thread hasn't been bumped in awhile.

Former major leaguer Chad Curtis was sentenced in a sex crimes case this week.

From MLB.com:

Quote:
Prosecutors said that Curtis, 44 years old, sexually assaulted three girls last year while working as a volunteer weight-room strength trainer at a high school in Barry County, Mich. Two of the high school students who alleged inappropriate contact were 15 years old, and the third victim was 16.

Curtis, standing before Barry County Circuit Court Judge Amy McDowell in Hastings, Mich., had an opportunity to speak on his own behalf Thursday and said that one of three victims in his case lied. Curtis testified to his Christian faith and said he hoped to write a book to set the matter right one day.

One of the three victims spoke during Thursday's sentencing hearing and said that Curtis had manipulated the situation and had known exactly what he was doing. The presiding judge appeared to agree with that conclusion, and at one point Judge McDowell called Curtis "a predator."

"You certainly are a threat to any community you get into," McDowell told Curtis during the hearing.

Another offseason DUI (but the first one this offseason)--this time it was Rockies co-owner Charlie Monfort who was nabbed.

Oh, Yasiel, Yasiel! *sigh* You're supposed to save your speed for the baseball field!

YP was last seen leaving a bad taste in the mouth of Dodger fans in Game 6 of the NLCS, miscues and all. Now, he's been busted again for serious speeding (thankfully, no alcohol involved, but posing danger nonetheless). This most recent incident took place in Florida at 9:30 a.m. yesterday morning (who does this mid-morning on a Saturday?). Details are here.
