Not to alienate any other posters here but being as it is there are a few of us here in Socal, would you ladies like to get together sometime for the holidays? Thought we could chat Dodgers, Padres, or whatever. I know of at least Sunnyblue & dodgerblue, so even if it's a small group, let me know what you think. We could pick a place for drinks, dinner, whatever. Post here or PM me about your availability.

It sounds like a great idea but good luck pinning me down! lol I will be working as many hours as I can get in before Christmas. Also (DB knows this) I have a new boyfriend whom I'm trying to find some time to spend with. Yes, he is a Dodger fan! He's coming to the family getaway from Dec. 24-26 which should be fun as he'll get to see how crazy we all are (and I hope that doesn't scare him away!) Very Happy

Could I suggest maybe doing this the week between Christmas and New Year? I like the idea. We could wear our Diamond tees too.

What I had in mind was maybe someplace like Quail Botanical Gardens in Encinitas, you can sit out on the patio outdoors and enjoy the ocean view and all the flowers. Sunnyblue, you mentioned living near there. And River dunesrat, I think it would be wonderful to have you make that drive if it works out. I'll see what I can do about that week between Christmas & New Year, but we have visiting family from the Midwest coming in and they'll be wanting to get out and do a lot around the area. We're going to the Holiday Bowl that week too, and are planning on the Rose Parade too. If I can work something in between all this I'll see what I can do. Linda, we have not heard from you yet?

Oops! I was in the middle of composing a post a couple of days ago and got summoned to do something else immediately. Sorry about that!

I too appreciate the suggestion but would also find it hard to narrow it down to a date. Right now the only absolute dates/times I have available in the next couple of weeks are on December 13 and 23. I'd like to check with Nurse Cozmo, too. She hasn't been here in several months due to computer problems, but I'll be seeing her tomorrow night. And I agree that it's great RDR would come over the river and through the woods (mountains) to join us.

Another question is what about Crzblue? I have not met her yet & I haven't seen her post in some time now. I do like the idea of Quail Botanical Gardens too, especially with that patio and ocean view that is mentioned here. BTW it is now called San Diego Botanical Garden, don't know if you all knew that. It would be kind of festive right there in the Poinsettia Capital and yes as it is noted it would be very close to me. I was just thinking if we had someone coming from the LA area we could stay close to San Diego. But whatever everyone decides is fine. I don't mind driving if I have to, and if I have the time available. If not then I will catch you all the next time, if it happens again.

I don't know if I'll be going to any bowl games this year. That may not be something that will work in my schedule, and I usually like to go to them, too. My brother is going to the Rose Bowl, though, the traditional game, not the national championship.

I will do that, Sunny. As for Crzblue, no, I haven't heard from her and haven't seen her post in awhile. A couple of years back, we had an offseason gathering of SoCal fans and met at Jeff Suppan's restaurant in Woodland Hills. Suppan gave us a tour and talked about some of his memorabilia. Crzblue went to that. It was a lot of fun! The food was good, too.

Have not been on the board much while working my butt off but now I can finally relax and say I'm off for a few days. We will be heading up to Wrightwood and some chilly mountain weather tomorrow, with snow, then coming down to the bright warmth & sunshine after a couple of days. Have you talked to Cathy lately and do you know her schedule? Riverdunesrat can you make it on short notice in the next couple of days? Another thing I thought, if we get together in the afternoon, Danny has a couple of his men's baseball (not softball) league games coming up as they always play the week between Christmas and New Year. Those games take place in North County, for anyone here who misses watching baseball, thought those who would like to join me to watch can do that afterward. There are some good looking guys on this team too! Very Happy

I was too, but I understand it was such a small window of opportunity for those of us here in town to even make it to the same place at the same time. I was so happy to see you again DB and you too Cathy, it was nice to get to know you! One thing I loved was getting to see some baseball played in the middle of the offseason, instead of just chatting and enjoying brunch, although I did enjoy Sunday brunch too. It was just nice to have something to do with our common theme which is how we all met here. Especially since we couldn't seem to figure out how to make our schedules work for an Arizona Fall League game, lol.

Sorry to be so out of touch.

I drove to Show Low in North East AZ before Christmas. We left at 10:00 am Tuesday the 22nd for a six hour drive up the mountain.

That drive turned into an eight hour drive. We encountered heavy snow fall. I had only driven in snow one time before at Big Bear in the late 80's.

That was the most nerve-wracking 2 hours of my life EVER!!!

Some fool in a van in front of me kept breaking and therefore, I also had to break. I quickly learned that I had to accelerate VERY slowly, otherwise I would fish tail and slide.

As we approached my friends house, I nearly ran off the road into a ravine. My Mother just kept saying "thank you God" over and over again. I secretly also was repeating the same.

The remainder of the time in Show Low we were shut ins. I didn't want to travel out into the elements, PERIOD!!!

I decided to leave earlier than originally planned and was SO glad I did, as today they had more snowfall.

I realize some of you live in snow country. My question is: How do you do it? I will take a 115º day over snow any day.

I don't know how drivers can do it in heavy snow either. I put up with it on rare occasion if I have to, mostly though we don't go into the mountains while it's snowing, but afterward. But even then, if it is snowing, my brothers both have 4WDs so when we take family trips, they drive. DB I'm like you, I'd rather work my way around traffic when I can and like you, I do not have a long commute, just a few minutes one way. So being inconvenienced by weather, and even by heavy traffic which I hardly ever run into is like a foreign thing to me.

Riverdunesrat, I have never been to Show Low, what is it like there?

And to those of you who were looking for us at the tailgate before the Holiday Bowl, I'm sorry I wasn't able to get there in time. Some things came up I had to take care of. That game really sucked too!

The game was definitely the worst of the Holiday Bowl games in its history. It had to happen on the one drizzly day of the week. The rest of the week was so pretty even though we were gone for a couple of those days in the desert because we drove over to Vegas right after the game ended. We came back to such a nice day Saturday it was better even than usual for this time of year, it's hard not to want to get out and do something. We heard from friends in Indiana that it was around 10 there and couldn't resist telling them we'd gotten home to even better weather than when we left. Before the Charger game started Sunday we were out at Balboa Park wearing shorts and sunscreen, and everyone seemed to just be enjoying the day. There's something peaceful it does for you to have nice weather. Nationally televising a Charger game on a day like that just doesn't seem to be fair, kind of seeing like the Rose Bowl game a couple of days earlier. My son is going to the national championship game on Thursday at the Rose Bowl, and it's looking like more good weather through the week. I wouldn't mind getting out to see another baseball game again soon though.

The weather has been really exhilarating. It's hard to describe to people elsewhere what it does to my spirit, but I relate to the feelings you elaborated. At a time of year when daylight hours are shorter, I embrace being outdoors for whatever amount of time I can be. Being at a baseball game would be even more sublime.

That IS funny, but in a clueless kind of way as you said. Sometimes people just don't pay attention to their surroundings.

You can tell your friend to contact me if you like. I can always use new friends here. I have had three good friends in my time here and one of them moved away to the Dakotas, ironic huh?

I can help them get their reunion planned as I know much about the area. No I'm not the Mayor but I am on a city board, the Community Tree Board. It is a lot of fun and I get to know the rural parts of Yuma.

As for wanting to move DB6, that is because one day my Mom and I freaked out at how long we had been in AZ. She, 20 plus years and me 16. I freaks me out to think that I may live longer in AZ than in CA my home state where I am a 4th generation San Diegan and my daughter a 5th.

Going back to SD at this point, and I checked into a couple times was WAY too expensive so I thought I might like to look elsewhere in SoCal.

I passed through Tehachapi one day while on my my to visit a friend in prison in Coalinga and thought it was a great place. There is a prison near there that I could work at, as I used to work at an AZ state prison here in Yuma.

So that was my thinking. But with this economy San Diego may not be as far off as an alternative as it once was. I'll keep ya posted.

Yes, prices are up again in S.D. although if you were looking a year or so ago there were some very affordable places to live. Of course, now that I make less than I did several years ago, I couldn't afford to buy them anyway. But a lot of friends who could not afford to buy previously, did buy homes last year.

Still, did you check the places I suggested which are much less expensive in general? Other friends I know have moved to outlying towns like these, because the cost of living is cheaper away from the coast. You knew that is a rule, though.
