I haven't done very well since the second half of the season got underway in keeping up with several players' health issues. I may be posting some updates on those soon.

More recently, Phillies pitcher Jamie Moyer was hospitalized because of a blood infection just prior to Thanksgiving. He had undergone a sports hernia surgery in early October. Get well, Jamie.

Blue Jays third baseman Edwin Encarnacion suffered facial injuries from an errant firecracker on New Year's Eve--shot off by his brother during a celebration in the D.R.

Fortunately, Vin was released late this morning and apologized to everyone for causing any concern.

Cari, I am guessing when she was asking where all the Dodger fans were it was about why they weren't posting get well wishes to Vinnie. I for one was without Internet access while at Camelback. It created quite a stir over in Arizona when people heard this. Fortunately it was a very short stay for him in the hospital & only for observation but even still, a scary thought for us all. Our family sent a bouquet of flowers to be delivered to the press box for Vin's first game and return to the booth for the first time this year. We are all saying prayers for you Vin!

Well, they are both eighty-somethings, but a similar incident just happened with Padres broadcaster Jerry Coleman, who was hospitalized following a fall yesterday before the Padres-Rockies game in Denver.

Best wishes to Dodgers catcher Brad Ausmus, who just underwent back surgery on his 41st birthday (last Thursday). According to the linked article from dodgers.com, he is expected to be out three months.

Also, Red Sox CF Mike Cameron passed a kidney stone and is still dealing with issues surrounding abdominal pain.

Now another of Pearl Girl's favorites is enduring a hardship. Astros pitcher Roy Oswalt's family home in Mississippi has been severely damaged by a tornado this weekend. Fortunately, there were no injuries.

Also, Pirates pitcher (and Damien High alum) Chris Jakubauskus was hit on the ear by a line drive off the bat of Lance Berkman during Saturday's Pirates-Astros game in Houston. Jakubauskus was subsequently hospitalized overnight, then released. It had been his first major league start in 2010 after being called up from Triple A on Friday. Last time I saw something that scary was in Arizona last September when it happened to Hi-Ku.

DB I saw you post about Roy last weekend when I jumped on line for a minute but didn't have time to catch up on all I had missed. My goodness it sure seems a lot of guys are having hard times with one thing or another.

Luckily I was not at that game. What I saw was so upsetting, I had to turn the TV off, and could not even watch for the remainder of the day. I honestly thought I had seen someone killed on the mound. Amazingly enough and through the Grace of God, Jakubauskus sustained no serious injury. Lance Berkman was was so shaken by the accident he said later he could not even concentrate the remainder of the game. Lance later visited him in the hospital.

I know, that would have been sickening to be there for, live. Jus watching it on replay it reminded me of that Dodgers vs. Diamondbacks game DB mentioned too. The same thing happened, his wife saw it and thought he was killed. The article she posted does talk about how shaken Berkman was. It seems it would be so hard to be in that situation. They're so competitive but then in the end, they are just human beings.

Lance is just a big ole soft pussycat with not a mean bone in his body. When Lance got to first base he grabbed his head in his hands and looked like he was going to have a break down.

Did you see when Tex tackled the catcher of the Angels, picked up his helmet, touch homeplate and not give a second look or thought to see if he had injured the catcher? Ever since Tex left the Rangers his head has gotten bigger and bigger. I think the Angels catcher ended up with a concussion and maybe even a broken bone.

I am so so sorry I posted it again. But like I said, since I could not find it (I looked under titles) I assumed I had not hit the "submit" button and had not really posted it. I did not re-post it to intentionally be rude or try to take over the board or use up space. I sincerely apologize for re-posting it. I suspect I should not post until I have sufficient time to read everything that has been posted since I posted last. But since I have work and family responsibilities coming out of my ears (as do all) will mostly now be a reader, since I just simply won't have time to read every thing in between visits. Hey, Pearl Girl, don't worry--of course I know you were not doing it to get under my skin, LOL--you are not that kind of person! I only posted back because I didn't want to delete it again and have you wonder if you were going crazy. Post when you can...read when you can. I understand about us all having responsibilities. You'll remember I was not around much myself during the week of the Dodgers' home opener because taking time off really set me back at work. You will probably also notice I post a LOT of things long after the fact--items that are "old news." I get around to it when I carve out a few minutes here or there. I suspect with all of us attending games these days, there is less time to get on the board on a regular basis.

FYI, I should make it clear that I never "delete" without moving the same comments to the thread where the discussion is taking place. Maybe this is getting a bit off topic, but I have known moderators of other boards that use the "delete" key too freely, in my opinion.

P.S. I'm really sorry for Roy's family's loss! Just glad they are all safe.

Edit: And while I'm at it with this thread open, let me add my best wishes to Brewers broadcaster Bob Uecker, who underwent heart surgery yesterday.
