Something I should have mentioned last week but I was too obsessed with games that were being played! El Niño had his second wrist surgery and hopefully will be good to go next season barring any more drama, and I say we can use less of it! Article from padres.com

Brewers first baseman/DH Jesse Winker has undergone spinal surgery, the second of two operations over the offseason, but is now hard at work at the Brewers' complex in Maryvale.

Rojo Chingon has suffered a horrible injury in the Red Sox-Tigers exhibition game today as Detroit pitcher Matt Manning hit him in the face with a pitch. Bloody aftermath ensued, as did stitches, and he is now recuperating following a brief hospitalization. Best wishes to him.

Even though it happened a couple of weeks ago, I would like to wish Padres legend Randy Jones a good recovery on his eye surgery he had recently.

All the best to #35. I'm glad he's recovering well.

Speaking of which, Rojo Chingon is back on the field after last week's horrifying accident. It's good to see him back, even if it is on the other coast!

Best wishes for a good recovery. Mike Shildt will step in for him on the field until he returns.

Last time I remember something like this was with Khalil Greene - Daniel Bard is on the IL because of anxiety. I always have a soft spot for guys who can acknowledge their issues and I wish him well.

Rangers outfielder Josh Smith was hit in the face by a pitch last night at Globe Life Field, by Orioles pitcher Danny Coulombe. He was then hospitalized. But it looks like he'll be OK.

Here's the article.

It seems like that's happening a lot in this young season. Former Dodger Kyle Farmer also suffered the same fate.

Be safe, guys.

I forgot to mention that Matt Williams returned to the field last week. And, I just read that Liam Hendricks is cancer-free now.

Good grief--baseball is a dangerous enough game what with the risk of a fastball getting loose at the wrong part of one's body, or any one of a number of on-field related injuries. But this? Matthew Delaney, a freshman Texas A&M-Texarkana baseball player, was struck in the spine by a stray bullet during a game played over the weekend, and is recuperating in the hospital.

From the above-linked article:

Quote:
Texarkana police say the bullet was fired during a shootout in a nearby neighborhood.

"The incident started as a disturbance there that led to two men shooting at each other in front of the house," Texarkana PD wrote in a Facebook post. "One of those errant rounds travelled about 400 yards and struck the innocent victim at the ball field."

Best wishes to the young man.

OMG - what an awful thing to happen when you are just trying to play the game you love.

To move to something a little "lighter" - Lol - I can hardly feel sorry for them but I read that the Water Hoarders probably should not have drunk the water in Mexico. Article from Sports Illustrated. Surprised

We seem to have seen quite a few of these injuries so far this season, but best wishes to Rockies RHP Ryan Feltner, who suffered a skull fracture and concussion after being hit in the head by a line drive off the bat of Phillies hitter Nick Castellanos. It happened in the third inning of Saturday's game between Colorado and Philadelphia at Coors Field.

This one is a little different. There was an explosion at the Storm ballfield in Lake Elsinore last night and there were 2 injuries. The 66ers were supposed to play a game there but it was cancelled. Article from CBS News

Brewers SS Willy Adames was hit by a foul ball while in the dugout in last night's game against the Jints and it ended up with a trip to the hospital. The game was played at American Family Field. They were going to keep him in the hospital overnight for observation. Here's the link.

Have to add Yu in this thread. He is scheduled to pitch this weekend after missing a couple of weeks with a stomach virus. It was said he lost 7 lbs.! Get well & stay well. We definitely need him.
