Details here:

http://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/recenteqsww/Quakes/ci14565620.php

It was about 20 miles south west of Yuma. Being from SD, I have been in lots of earthquakes, Sylmar and Northridge to name a couple but this one was the most violent one I have experienced. It was 5.8 with a duration of 30 - 45 seconds. My Mom and I were sitting in the kitchen at 11:48 AZ time and it felt like a sonic boom to start but then got stronger and the house actually shook back and forth and the vertical blinds swayed back and forth. It was also strange that the foundation of the house seemed to sway and rise under my feet, something I hadn't experienced before either.

I checked all the walls and ceilings and the block wall out back and no damage thankfully. There have been like 30 after shocks of which I felt none of them. I always liked earthquakes as long as there is no damage and I don't get sucked into the earth!

The good news though is that major damages usually only happen in the major Metro areas of which we are not.

And btw, my three cats totally freaked out and ran under the beds. LOL

Well, that's not good news to me! But, I'm glad you guys are okay (and also your kitties!)

I did not feel the quake and neither did any of my coworkers. Our boss whose office is at the other end of the building did. So far I have been able to find only one other friend who did feel it. Business as usual here...

I did not feel it either, neither did most of my family. One sister-in-law did. She was at home on the computer. I was out driving at the time.

We were in Vegas and missed it, but none of my family here felt it either. 30 to 45 seconds, that seems really long. There was also another one on Sunday afternoon. Heard about it later, but missed that one too when we were back in San Diego. A lot of people I know were at the Chargers game then, and the stadium was rocking pretty strong anyway. Some said they thought they felt a quake late in the 4th quarter but thought it was just the fans getting so wild because the Chargers won in the last minutes. Lol.

I thought you had not left for Vegas when it happened? lol I know what you're saying about the one at the Charger game. Most people there had no idea.

You are right, I was getting my days mixed up. We talked to family here about the quake everyone missed while on the phone in Vegas, but it was the day after it happened.
