Well did anyone tap you on the shoulder at church yesterday? It seems like that happens a lot, Lol. _________________ "Baseball is an allegorical play about America, a poetic, complex, and subtle play of courage, fear, good luck, mistakes, patience about fate, and sober self-esteem." - Saul Steinberg |

Happy Ash Wednesday, all.
It's the first time I've posted Yasiel's bat since Yasiel left the Dodgers, but what can I say? I still like it.

I think it is appropriate that Ash Wednesday always falls right around the time preseason games start. _________________ "Baseball is an allegorical play about America, a poetic, complex, and subtle play of courage, fear, good luck, mistakes, patience about fate, and sober self-esteem." - Saul Steinberg |

I thought as much. Palm Sunday will surely not be postponed though? _________________ "Baseball is an allegorical play about America, a poetic, complex, and subtle play of courage, fear, good luck, mistakes, patience about fate, and sober self-esteem." - Saul Steinberg |

It occurred to me last week that, not only did I not bump this one up on May 31 for Pentecost, but there may be a hidden lesson in this particular Pentecost Sunday.
First, while I did wear blue, it was the first Pentecost in which I haven't attended church (for obvious reasons) that I can remember. I always enjoy celebrating the "birth of the church."
Second, since this includes remembering the speaking of tongues from the Biblical description...all I can say is, evidently the tongues between the MLBPA and the owners are still foreign to each other as of this writing. And since I haven't posted here since October 27, when the Dodgers won the World Series, I think now is a perfect time! The Church of Baseball is rejoicing! _________________ "The Dodgers have always occupied an enormous place in the history of the game. After missing the Presidents Day bump, I'm not going to lag twice in one week...so, for Ash Wednesday.

And so, now, it's time to visit my "other" church...which I've been away from far too long in the pandemic! _________________ "The Dodgers have always occupied an enormous place in the history of the game. Well, Cathy knows this since I told her about it earlier, but haven't posted:
Our church celebrated its 115th anniversary last week. (I'm one of the co-historians.)
So when I was asked for a few comments by another congregant, all I could think of was:
"Pray for the Dodgers."

The next question is will they still be in need of prayer this Sunday? _________________ "Baseball is an allegorical play about America, a poetic, complex, and subtle play of courage, fear, good luck, mistakes, patience about fate, and sober self-esteem." - Saul Steinberg |

I didn't get too much ribbing, actually.
On a related subject, they recently removed the pews for carpet cleaning and it certainly looked strange and emtpy when I walked through the sanctuary for a mid-week meeting last week, only to hear one of the older ladies ask, "What did they do with the bleachers?" A few seconds later, she exclaimed, "Oh, I meant the pews--you can tell I have baseball on my mind."

Thanks! Of course, the past week being Holy Week, the Dodgers and Padres both hosted their home openers.
I felt like I didn't do enough this Lenten season. I didn't give anything up and I didn't take anything on. It's been a kind of weird last few weeks for me, personally. _________________ "The Dodgers have always occupied an enormous place in the history of the game. Hey, Cathy...I forgot to mention that my mom skipped church altogether for the "church of baseball" on the Sunday the Padres had that 8:30 a.m. B at B game. I really ribbed her about that. _________________ "The Dodgers have always occupied an enormous place in the history of the game. Big announcement here...I missed Pentecost Sunday at church yesterday because of...baseball (among other things).
