I thought there would probably be more in the book about Dodger Stadium seeing as it's the 50th anniversary. I am glad the book encompasses both coasts. Perhaps if there hadn't been an Ebbets Field and Brooklyn Dodgers there wouldn't have been the LA Dodgers and Dodger Stadium.

I am more embarrassed that I can't keep DB's family members straight and when I thought Kerry was Linda's niece I did think she was probably in her 20s (so DB's mom wouldn't have been too mad at me Laughing)

But the Dodgers have actually played fewer years in Dodger Stadium than they have out of it, and the book covers all their history.

Well, this is a brief check-in. Got a lot to post as soon as I get my newsletter deadline out of the way tonight!

Holy cow you girls have been busy!!!! Sorry I missed this thread. I sometimes forget to look at the general discussion. I enjoyed hearing about everyones holidays. Dave and I are getting back into exercise(well I was until my tailbone injury) but I still have lost 12lbs since the new year.

My Christmas was a little different this year because since I haven't been a working girl for years I decided to work the holidays to make a little Christmas money. We usually go downtown and over to Our Lady of the Snows in Illinois to look at decorations but did neither this year. My daughter who lives in OKC missed Christmas Eve with the family because of illness but made it for Christmas day feeling ill. It was a very low key Christmas. They only baseball thing going on for me was a good a few WS trinkets and gave a few as presents. We even missed all the holiday parades. Maybe next year between Christmas and New Year's I need to make a trip to SoCal. Being a camper myself I would be game for that!

Hello stlred! Congratulations on your weight loss and I hope everything is better now? Your daughter was sick? Is she OK? tailbone injury, gosh - I hope things get better from here.

Are you sure you got the same Christmas letter? She did say Kerry was turning 50 and that's why she was so proud of her.

I remember her talking about Erin who I knew was her sister but other names aside from her nephew and Garrett I did not recognize. For some reason I thought Kerry was her niece and obviously the age slipped by me.

Stlred - I also am trying to lose some weight - around 10 pounds but I am not having much luck. Steve and I are doing Weight Watchers at home. He is doing well losing weight but I am staying about the same. I use up too many of my extra points.

LOL--I'm sure she'll be glad to know she was the hot topic of conversation.

Yep, I did make her age a big topic in the letter because I wanted everyone to understand how proud our family was.

Sunnyblue,

Quote:
To DB, I do agree, though that she is definitely the best looking 50 I have seen. My brothers are very impressed. You and she have a lot to be proud of!

Thanks--your brothers were not the only ones who were impressed! I heard from almost everyone I sent the letter to who isn't on Facebook. It was great to see how many of my FB friends were supportive of her, too.

Stlred,

Glad to see you back here and posting. Would be great to have you out here again sometime! Very Happy

To Gil Hodges fan, you are really cracking me up! I guess that letter was not as memorable as she'd like to think it was. Surprised NO seriously DB, Kerry is very inspiring to me and you can let her know that. That was a marvelous picture included in the letter too. It's nice to share family accomplishments and reading the letter I thought if I was on Facebook (which I am not) it would have been nice to read the comments since she got so many "likes."

To stlred, gee whiz I saw about your fall in the other thread! It happened a few wks. ago but you're just now posting about it? I did wonder where you were for awhile. Hope you are not in pain much longer.

I am getting back to exercise too, well I never left it much but I have less time for it when I'm working longer days due to holiday orders. That was for about a month. Then I got back to hiking a lot. I go down to the beach sometimes, but we have a lot of canyons and mountains that are good hiking spots within a few miles of the coast.

No, maybe it wasn't, except to some of you. Sad But thanks Very Happy and I will pass on the message to her! As for the "marvelous" picture, that reminds me of Vinnie...one of his favorite superlatives. Smile

She did indeed get many accolades and "likes" on FB, more so on my page than on hers! LOL. There was a lot of encouragement along the way, too. It was heartening to me how many strangers (people I know through FB whom I've never met) were supportive. I loved that. She rocks!

Linda, I wondered if you are going to update this with all the holidays we have had lately? Wink

And I wanted to pass along happy birthday wishes to Justin too. Sunnyblue - Speaking of Swami's, I was there again yesterday and still so beautiful! We will have to get Gil Hodges Fan there.

Linda - my husband and son were very impressed with Kerry, too. Do you think she'll go back? Raul said to pass along that she is very pretty too. Not that you all didn't know that. Lol

Something that's still free...the Coaster and Amtrak go right by it Smile but then, so can GilHodgesFan's car. Very Happy

How sweet! I will let him know you said so. We had a great time at Stone Brewery a few nights ago celebrating with him.

I think she said once in a lifetime Smile but we'll see. And she's always been pretty, the quintessential California beach babe.

I am indeed planning to update this thread again as it seems like an endless run of holidays without much of a break. After this next week, though, I think this particular "holiday season" can be considered over. I still have to link and post some pictures, too.

Something to add to my itinerary which so far only has the Dodgers and Padres games listed. That's all I can think of is getting to see some California baseball Very Happy

I've always wanted to go there. How was it?

Your family is amazing to me and I would love to meet them. You are full of survivors!

Our accomplishments are very little by comparison. I still want to congratulate my family for working on and helping the LCF to win the Bob Hope award! Very Happy I was waiting a long time for stlred to come back to this thread but she never posted about St. Louis bowing out. I think it's sad to see some traditions end. That was one of them.

Excellent food, good drinks, poor service. As I posted on Facebook last week, if you're going to seat a large party on your patio outdoors on a January night, please be sure the heaters are on first. They were slow to light them, slow to bring everything else, too.

Yeah, I don't know where stlred went. Too bad; I was sorry to see that too. Major props to your family for all their hard work! I noticed earlier, but never did post, about the award winner. They can proudly say that was seen all around the world.

You know, I want to thank you and Cathy for always being supportive of my family. That means more to me now because of some things that are going on that I haven't posted about yet. Thanks for your uplifting comments.

I also want to congratulate Sunnyblue's niece and nephews. Good work!

I love hearing about young people getting involved in helping others. Seems we always hear about the other kind of kids in the news.

Congratulations to the work all your families do to help others Very Happy

lol, Gil Hodges fan Laughing I am not sure what you think they did that helped others? I was being facetious in saying that, well sort of - it's really kind of by accident as they didn't really have anything to do with the award being won. They did work hard, but that was mainly to show off. lol

I was commenting on their work on the LCF that was posted a few days ago Smile Was I missing something again? I guess it wouldn't surprise me if something did not compute though I am trying to do better Smile

I think Sunnyblue was responding to that when she posted:

My response to Sunnyblue: LOL, it's no surprise kids want to show off.

LOL--I think it was; I was looking at a picture of it just the other day.

I just talked to Stlred and she will be back soon--is having computer issues.

Cathy and Sunnyblue:

I want to thank you both for your birthday wishes for Justin, as this was an emotional birthday for him. It was not only the first without his granddad there, but there's always that connection between him and my dad, too.

We have always raised a glass to toast Dad, on their birthday. This year, we raised two, to toast Bill as well.

So your comments, as well as those about Kerry, meant a lot to my family. I'm sure our dad is so proud of her!

I am glad to hear she will be.

I bet it was a sentimental birthday.

That made me feel a little sentimental, too. I think you should write an article on her like you did about your grandma. I loved the one you wrote about Justin - thank you for sending me to that one.

As for stlred I do hope to see her back and posting soon too.

I would like it if you'd write an article about her also DB. It's a good way to get to know your family members better (and keep track of them).

I can relate to Justin missing his grandpa - his first birthday without him. The "firsts" are always very difficult. I think it's great that you always toast to your dad and now to Bill also.

I am surprised to read that from you, GilHodgesFan. I didn't think you had any interest; you were the only one who hadn't posted any congratulations of any kind.

But I'll let you know if I do. Not likely for awhile--I don't really have an angle for anything like that.

I can see why you would think that because I respond so haphazardly and not always when posts come up Sad I loved the article about your grandmother and I would like to keep better track of what is going on with friends family members on here. I am very much interested in the ties that bind us to our families. How those who have gone before us influenced our lives even though we never met them, and how those we loved live on in us and our family members. The connections and memories that keep them living on though not in physical form. Things like that mean even more to me having lost mom. I look for ways I can help her memory live on in my grandson who was fortunate enough to be close to my mom and my grand-daughter who won't remember mom bouncing her on her knee and telling her nursery rhymes.

Our family here and now matters so much...to share in their joys and sorrows and to be there for each other.

I can't always keep family members straight (as you know Exclamation) but I do care Smile

Sunnyblue,

Whatever happened to the pictures? The pig's snout lives on! Lol

Linda,

Are we all super-full these days? I have had enough dumplings to last until next year. Between all the baseball both live seeing games in person, and on TV, and parties in between I need a break before the next round. We went to Sycuan and did pretty well there, but they had all the festivities going on too. Time for me to rest up, I'm not sure I can keep up with the rest of you. Lol Laughing

Szechuan at Sycuan? Laughing Laughing

I haven't been to Sycuan in years. I too have gorged myself with duck, dumplings and other delicacies over the past couple of weeks.

I need a Dodger logo on this one! Very Happy

BTW...with so much talk of Disney in this thread, I thought of stlred (I know, we're all wondering where she is!), with today being the 11th anniversary of the opening of DCA. Stlred and I met for the first time back in 2007 when she and her husband were out here in Socal, and it was on that trip that we went to California Adventure together. It was a great time! Very Happy

Not that it was a big deal but I wish Gil Hodges fan would have responded when I asked her if she saw the video. I removed it since that link is no longer good.

Love the lantern. I hope everyone's having a happy new year.

It seems so different to see 99 Ranch without all the decorations and all the specialty stuff they had the last few weeks, doesn't it!

I hope she did. I know I watched it awhile back which was why I brought up the pig's snout. Very Happy That was good work they did. It looked pretty detailed.

I don't know if maybe Gil Hodges Fan has missed this thread for awhile as it seems like some time since she has posted here.

I liked your lantern, Linda and at least you didn't have any orange & black ones. Lol

Also, nice story about you & Stlred! Sunnyblue, I am sorry she never made it back here before you left.

Xin Nian Kuai Le to all.

I missed the post about the video so I missed seeing it.

I'm glad the lantern was blue also Smile The colors black and orange are only permissable at Halloween Laughing
