|
|
I thought I had started a thread about Friday the 13th in baseball in a previous year, but I couldn't find one. However, here's an article that was posted on MLB.com last night about some strange goings-on in yesterday's games.
Of course since MLB.com is East Coast-driven, the West Coast games were left out in the cold again (given this story was filed long before the Dodgers-Padres game even ended, with a wild one itself). Booooo!!! _________________ "The Dodgers have always occupied an enormous place in the history of the game. No kidding. Aaron's 13 consecutive Ks would be right up there as just right for Friday the 13th. Not just right to me though. Another bump up! Today was the second Friday the 13th of the 2012 season, and it started the "second half" for most teams. _________________ "The Dodgers have always occupied an enormous place in the history of the game. Well, the Dodgers lost on Friday the 13th this year which means the Jints won --talk about some scheduling! I'm sure on paper, back before the season started, this late season match-up between the two bitter rivals looked like it would be a dogfight for the division.
Vin provided some interesting tidbits about Friday the 13th during last night's broadcast. I'll get back to this later. _________________ "The Dodgers have always occupied an enormous place in the history of the game. Well, we lost on Friday the 13th. But my boys have been losing so much lately any day feels like it is Friday the 13th! _________________ "Baseball is an allegorical play about America, a poetic, complex, and subtle play of courage, fear, good luck, mistakes, patience about fate, and sober self-esteem." - Saul Steinberg |

And it was really Friday the 13th for my boys' bats!
They disappeared!

Good stuff here! I'm glad the Dodgers won. I always enjoy reading about players' superstitions. I know we had a thread about them. |

Yes, I'll find it. And how about the fact that the Bush call-up was on Friday the 13th? And he fared pretty well? _________________ "The Dodgers have always occupied an enormous place in the history of the game. Well, how did we end up with two Friday the 13ths in the same season? I suppose it's happened before, but it seems like I just bumped this thread (three months ago, that is!). _________________ "The Dodgers have always occupied an enormous place in the history of the game. I think it happens whenever there is a Friday the 13th in April, because the calendar for July is the same. Only difference is July has 31 days. The rest of the month is on the same schedule. So probably in another 6 years or so.
Friday the 13th for my Padres went just as expected, it was another loss. _________________ "Baseball is an allegorical play about America, a poetic, complex, and subtle play of courage, fear, good luck, mistakes, patience about fate, and sober self-esteem." - Saul Steinberg |

Unless I missed one earlier in the season, this is the first Friday the 13th in baseball this year. Will Cathy's Padres lose again? Will some unlucky turn of events affect an intense wild card race? What can we expect? _________________ "The Dodgers have always occupied an enormous place in the history of the game. Cathy hasn't posted her Padres lost again. It's strange, there was a full moon and a Friday the 13th, and I didn't hear much out of the ordinary. |

Lol - yes, my guys losing is not out of the ordinary!
The Rockies beat them in Coors Field, 10-8. Sometimes it feels like there were many more Friday the 13ths, this season. _________________ "Baseball is an allegorical play about America, a poetic, complex, and subtle play of courage, fear, good luck, mistakes, patience about fate, and sober self-esteem." - Saul Steinberg |

Two years later (since the last post here):
Another Friday the 13th, this time in August, yielded good and bad results in baseball depending on who your team is. For the Dodgers, it was good, as they beat the Mets in extra innings (though not 13 of them)! _________________ "The Dodgers have always occupied an enormous place in the history of the game. Well, they were bad results for us. My Padres lost that night. I had not checked back, though, to see what other "unlucky" things happened around baseball last Friday. _________________ "Baseball is an allegorical play about America, a poetic, complex, and subtle play of courage, fear, good luck, mistakes, patience about fate, and sober self-esteem." - Saul Steinberg |

Well, it's time for another edition of Friday the 13th in baseball!
The day already started out jinxed when the Dodgers announced that CK is being placed on the IL. But more about that in the Ravin' thread. _________________ "The Dodgers have always occupied an enormous place in the history of the game. That is unfortunate.
I think our misfortunes were put off by a day, and since tomorrow is a full moon that was probably why the game today went so poorly. Last night, on the other hand, went very nicely. _________________ "Baseball is an allegorical play about America, a poetic, complex, and subtle play of courage, fear, good luck, mistakes, patience about fate, and sober self-esteem." - Saul Steinberg |
