|
|
It will take place on February 9 at Petco Park.
Here are some details,
Quote: | The daylong event is free and open to the public. Details surrounding Padres FanFest will be released before the event.
Last year, the Padres had nearly 18,000 attend the one-day event with more than 20 players attending, along with manager Bud Black.
Third baseman Chase Headley presided over a hitting clinic while Clayton Richard did the same for a pitching clinic on the field.
One change that occurred last year was moving the Padres Garage Sale to the actual field itself, where merchandise -- such as autographed jerseys, game-used equipment and clubhouse memorabilia -- was sold, raising more than $80,000 to benefit the Padres Foundation. |
Sounds like it will be a fun day as always! I just love the kids at those clinics!

Some highlights from the U-T re tomorrow's event:
Quote: | The players will be joined by former Padres, club executives and members of the television and radio broadcasting teams. Padres co-owners Ron Fowler and Peter Seidler, CEO Tom Garfinkel and General Manager Josh Byrnes, manager Bud Black and players will take part in scheduled fan forums throughout the day.
Fans can get autographs, tour the clubhouse, run the bases and catch fly balls in the outfield. In addition, the Padres Foundation will host its annual garage sale just inside the Park Boulevard gate. Fans will have the opportunity to purchase Padres items, including game-used jerseys and batting helmets.
There will also be a kids’ pitching clinic with Padres All-Star closer Huston Street and a kids’ batting clinic with Cameron Maybin. There will also be an expanded Military Zone featuring representatives from the Navy, Army and Marine Corps.
Leading the list of players attending FanFest are third baseman Chase Headley, who finished fifth in the National League Most Valuable Player voting, Street, left fielder Carlos Quentin and leading rookie Jedd Gyorko. Also attending will be:
Pitchers Clayton Richard, Andrew Cashner, Cory Luebke, Anthony Bass, Casey Kelly, Tim Stauffer, Joe Thatcher, Dale Thayer, Nick Vincent, Brad Boxberger, Brad Brach, Miles Mikolas, Tyson Ross, Tommy Layne, Joe Wieland and Adys Portillo; catchers Nick Hundley and John Baker; infielder Logan Forsythe, and outfielders Chris Denorfia, Mark Kotsay, Cameron Maybin and Will Venable.
FanFest is also the first opportunity for fans to guarantee their seats for prime series, including the New York Yankees’ first visit to Petco Park, through purchases of a Budweiser 6 Pack. The 6 Pack includes the choice of one Yankees game (either Friday Aug. 2 or Sunday Aug. 4) and five additional games – excluding Opening Day and other selected games. Single game tickets won’t go on sale until March 7. |
Have fun, Cathy! _________________ "The Dodgers have always occupied an enormous place in the history of the game. If the Yankees are the most successful team in baseball history, the Dodgers are the most essential. Their legacy is unique."

Thank you! As expected it was a great time at Petco Park yesterday. We went with some friends of ours who were bringing their 5 month old baby to Petco for the first time so it was a special time for them – even if there was not a game going on. And we had to improve his wardrobe (which you will see why later). We all met in the Gaslamp Quarter for brunch at Soleil at K, and then headed to the ballpark. It was such a nice day when we left the house, I almost didn’t want to wear a jacket but by the time we got downtown there were clouds above and a bit of a chill so I was glad I had brought another layer!
Meeting and talking to CQ and Clayton Richard were among the best things of the day. Both of them had told the Union Tribune writer who was covering the event that it works both ways at the Fan Fest, not just the fans meeting players but players getting to know the fans, as being a good thing. I told them we have followed the Padres since they were a new franchise so they understood I have some history of being their fan, Lol. Andrew Cashner was there too and told everyone that (to my surprise) he will be ready by Opening Day. My son asked CQ what he thought about Cathedral being ranked No. 1 in the nation in the preseason polls and he was pretty excited about it. Chase, of course, was the most popular player there. We did not get near him.
Another thing was everyone wanted to see the work that had been done on the outfield and get a feel for the new dimensions. Kids were all over the field, and in a way that was the best part of it to me. I always think of baseball as a kid’s game and I never want it not to feel like it to children. Some pictures from the U-T gallery show how much fun this Fan Fest was for families. It made me wish I had brought a small child with me instead of two grown ones. Of course we had the baby, but he was too little to do anything other than pose with the Friar. If nothing else I did stop to watch the kids' pitching clinic with Huston Street and the batting clinic with Cameron Maybin. The “expanded military zone” in the Park at the Park was a good activity for families too with interactive stuff to do that were set up by the Navy, Army and USMC.
The Padres garage sale had a lot of stuff I would have loved to bid on, but I kept my purse shut as I would have gotten out of hand if I even started. Lol. To think I was originally supposed to be in Vegas this weekend I had to question whether I would have spent more there, or here! I know I would have at least come home with something here, though. Lol Speaking of Vegas they have us at 100-to-1 odds to win the World series this year, little surprise there Here is the link to prove it
We skipped the clubhouse tour although our friends did take it- I have done that enough times and I don't think anything has changed. It gets pretty crowded so unless you have not done it before, I would rather just take a pass.
Another thing we did not get to (but if I had spent less time on the field I probably would have rather done this) - the fan forum featuring Ron Fowler, Peter Seidler, Josh Byrnes and Tom Garfinkel, and of course Buddy Black.
The best part of the day yesterday was just being with the family and getting to meander around the ballpark, something we don’t get a chance to do as often once September ends. We did stick our noses in a couple of months ago, as you might remember me posting, just to check out how the progress of how the construction was going.
I sent Linda one picture taken on the field so she can post it later.

Here's the U-T photo gallery, and Bill Center's recap. It was much more in-depth than the brief report on padres.com.

You mean, like 15 to 20 years before these guys were born?
