Yesterday, Red Sox protested their loss to Rays at Tropicana Field due to substitution confusion.

Seems like we can hardly go a few days without some on-field action--including this past weekend.

What about the Reds-Pirates melee last night? That was insane. So Yasiel was traded and then this happens? He sure likes to be in the middle of things. The Reds did not put up with him too long and honestly, Linda, I think your team is a lot better off without him.

I think you're right. We've moved on, although we'll never forget the excitement (with baggage) that he brought.

The Yankees and Rays are getting a little heated these days. Suspensions on both sides, Yankees closer Aroldis Chapman for head hunting, and both managers, Aaron Boone and Kevin Cash. Here's the article.

A melee broke out at the Cardinals-Brewers game at Miller Park tonight, and Cardinals manager Mike Shildt took up the cause for his team by challenging the Brewers' dugout. Both Shildt and Milwaukee manager Craig Counsell were ejected. The game turned into a runaway win for the Crew, 18-3, but the bad blood is still there.

Twins third baseman Josh Donaldson homered yesterday against the White Sox and was ejected when he crossed home plate - umpire thought he was showing him up by kicking dirt. Here's the link.

This is from the article:

Quote:
Donaldson’s leadoff homer in the sixth inning off White Sox starter Reynaldo López on Thursday afternoon at Guaranteed Rate Field broke a tie, but the third baseman also had an exchange with home-plate umpire Dan Bellino less than a minute later, and he was run from the game.

The dustup started one pitch before Donaldson’s homer. He and Bellino exchanged words on a strike call, though the origin of the conversation was unclear -- either Donaldson was asking if the call was made because Bellino deemed it was indeed a strike, or if he was ruling that Donaldson had offered a check swing.

...Donaldson connected on the next pitch, but after he rounded the bases, he dragged his foot across home plate, bringing dirt with him.

Donaldson then went back to touch the plate, perhaps thinking he may have actually missed it the first time. At that point, (home plate umpire Dan) Bellino was already motioning for the ejection. Donaldson kicked more dirt onto the plate before exiting the field.

For the first one of the 2021 season I thought I would post about the bad blood boiling over between the Cardinals & Reds in their game last weekend, played at Great American Ballpark. The Cardinals took exception to a few protocol issues they called disrespect and it ended up with both benches clearing and Nick Castellanos (Reds catcher) being ejected. Here's the article.

I almost thought this was going to be about the Brewers hitting Willson Contreras, but that's next. One week in, a couple of brouhahas.

How about Trevor's balls being examined by MLB for tampering? That was in the game in Oakland, the series finale when KJ blew the save but Trevor had another terrific start for the Dodgers.

Ahhhh, let's reword that a bit. Trevor's baseballs were being examined, Very Happy and I certainly won't defend him if he's found to be cheating.

Well, that Braves-Phillies game got everyone talking. What a horrible call!

Has this first month been chock-full of controversies, or what?

Well it looks like there was a controversy with video replay called out by Royals manager Mike Matheny, when they lost to the White Sox today. Here's the article.

I almost forgot to mention this but any opinions about Manny's controversial slide? It seems like that died down quickly.

Yeah, Cath, it seems like there were two ways of looking at it. But nobody's talking about it anymore.

Yesterday's White Sox game seems like it took over. I can't keep up with the controversies this year. They come almost as quickly as the no-hitters. Smile

They kind of put an end to it - article from padres.com

As for the White Sox I heard Tony La Russa says it is about respecting the game and "sportsmanship" - article from mlb.com

How about the marlins hitting Ronald Acuna on the very first pitch of the game yesterday?

Just thinking about how our Dodgers play the Marlins next. I don't think they have any bad blood with any of our players.

Since it happened during our "down time" I wonder if there are any opinions about the Kevin Kiermaier issue with the Blue Jays? The Blue Jays decided to plunk him in retaliation, Lol.
