Getting this one started:

A hometown boy comes home--that would be utility infielder Greg Garcia. Garcia was claimed off waivers by the Padres, from the Cardinals. Smile

And a Dodger legend is re-signed--CK will be back for three years. By the time that's up, I would imagine he'd be ready to retire, after a 14-year career.

Yes, I am hopeful that Greg will do well for his hometown team!

I assume you are happy with the Kershaw news.

Length of the contract is just right at three years. He'll be 31 on Opening Day next season, and while his best years are still behind him, as I was telling another fan--Walker Buehler is going to eventually assume role of ace, and having CK there to guide him along can only be a good thing, while still contributing to a solid rotation.

He should retire after having pitched his entire career in Dodger Blue.

It should be interesting to see where Bryce lands since he rejected the Nationals offer.

It was good while it lasted, but Christian Villanueva has been designated for assignment by the Padres. He will now head to Japan to play for the Yomiuri Giants. Article from padres.com

Even as a fan of the opposition, I found Villanueva to be intriguing to watch when he was on his game.

Meanwhile, the Dodgers have released two relievers, RHP Erik Goeddels and LHP Zac Rosscup--details from dodgers.com.

Also, catcher Ryan McCann will return to Atlanta, having signed a one-year deal with the Braves.

I've noticed that Garrett Richards announced via Twitter that he's now a Padre. Well, how do you like that? Meanwhile, the Angels have acquired infielder Tommy LaStella from the Cubs.

LHP Patrick Corbin has signed with the Nationals for six years, pending a physical.

I am tired of hearing about where Bryce and Manny will end up. Let these meetings get going already.

I am fine with getting Garrett Richards. Not a big name, but at least a pitcher with decent experience and numbers. Will be interesting to have both Richard & Richards in the rotation. Smile

And the Cardinals land a big one--first baseman Paul Goldschmidt, who was traded to St. Louis.

And thankfully he is now OUT of the National League West! Exclamation Exclamation

Have I mentioned, even though I love this time of year (holidays), how much I dislike this time of year? It was one thing 25 years ago but in the Internet era millions of rumors swirl that have no basis, and I get sick of hearing them all. Just report the news as it happens, without speculation.

Lots of talk about Kelly and the 2013 NLCS. I'm glad he's ours now. That's a good pickup for the bullpen. And it gives us some insurance for KJ too.

Heh well I see nobody has posted about it, but Ian Kinsler (infielder) is now a Padre. He signed for 2 years. Article from padres.com

And there he goes...for five years now they've been saying he'll be traded, each and every offseason, and now it's finally happened.

Yasiel is a Red. Bison's return to L.A. was short-lived, as he's accompanying his outfield counterpart to Cincinnati. Madera is included in the deal, too. And the Dodgers get Homer Bailey and prospects.

Trying to digest this. The top prospects are good pick-ups, but I'm not ready to let go of 66.

I am shocked. Shocked! I didn't see both of those guys leaving, maybe one of them though. Goodbye to the Bison and El Caballo! They will be missed!

Hey, Cathy, no need to wonder about the rotation with Richard & Richards. Because now Clayton Richard has been traded to the Blue Jays after being designated for assignment last week; in exchange for the LHP and cash considerations, the Padres received minor league outfielder Connor Panas.

I am fine with that move because Richard had a pretty bad year in 2018. His ERA was in the 5 range most of the last couple of seasons.

Also how about the big news that LHP Yusei Kikuchi signed for 4 years with the Mariners. Article from mlb.com

Well, look at this--the Royals have signed RHP Kyle Zimmer for one year. Let's see how that goes...

That is weird. Did he think he would be in high demand after last year's playoffs? Speaking of your Dodgers and speaking of catchers I heard on the drive home today that they traded to bring Russell Martin back?

Yes--scratching my head there but there's no guarantee he will be in L.A. on Opening Day, knowing this FO! Still, we needed a catcher--I guess we'll see.

A.J. Pollock? Really? At first I thought this might be a set-up for something else, but the Dodgers have signed him to a five-year contract. WTF?
