The Modern Era ballot was released this week, and it includes several big name players from the '70s, '80s and '90s.

I know we have previously discussed Steve Garvey to death. So I'll leave that alone.

Right now, I'm looking at Tommy John--none other than the Tommy John! Smile --and Dave "Cobra" Parker, he of the '70s Pirates fame, as the other two worthy candidates. Beyond that, I'll have to do a little more homework. Truthfully, Braves slugger Dale Murphy was often thought of as a future HOFer in the 1980s, but through the lens of what's transpired over the last 35 years, I'll have to re-evaluate the situation.

Marvin Miller seems to be a shoo-in.

I also say "no" to Yankees slugger Don Mattingly, who was probably well on his way to a HOF career early on. But in retrospect, he falls a little short.

I need to look closer at some details before I make any comments.

Congratulations - and it looks like the Dodgers' list of retired numbers will stay the same for another year!
