One is a Hall of Famer, one isn't quite. But they were both stalwarts of their era and among the best at what they did. And they both celebrate birthdays today.

My first love in baseball, Steve Garvey, turns 71.

And it's a milestone 75th birthday for former Phillies/Cardinals southpaw Steve Carlton.

Their approaches to the media were as different as night and day.

Happy birthday to both men.

I never knew they had the same birthday. Good post to connect these 2 players and it's true they had such different personalities. The Dodgers and Phillies had those great playoff games in the late 1970s which I don't remember since I was really little then, but both teams had a lot of terrific players who played together many seasons. Happy birthday to Garv and Steve Carlton.

Yes because they both played in those last years before free agency wrecked the game. Happy (belated) birthday to the Steves.
