Well, that's weird. Two playoff games just ended at the same time with the same final score--White Sox 4, "A"s 1; Asterisks* 4, Twins 1. In both cases the road team won. Currently in progress, Jays at Rays, and on tap for later, Yankees at Indians.

Of note, White Sox RHP Lucas Giolito took a perfect game into the seventh before allowing a hit. The lone Oakland run was scored after the bulllpen assumed control.

I just heard a stat I was not aware of. The Twins have lost 17 straight playoff games? Surprised

Unreal!

The Rays just beat the Blue Jays, 5-1. The Yankees are underway in Cleveland and leading in the fourth inning, 5-1 (could we have another "repeat" pair of scores?). In a match-up featuring Gerrit Cole and Shane Bieber, Cole's playoff experience is looking more valuable as the game progresses.

Well, I guess that was a statement by the Yankees, who won, 12-3

And yes, the Twins own the longest postseason futility streak in major sports.

Here's something of interest about these playoffs--three rookies are expected to make their debuts.

Alex Kirilloff has made history already. He got his first major league hit for the Twins in the 4th inning of Game 2, today - link from mlb.com

The Asterisks* beat the Twins at Target Field, 3-1, giving Minnesota its 18th consecutive postseason loss - Exclamation - which sends Houston the second round of the postseason. No congratulations offered.

The first NL playoff game to go final, Reds at the Braves, featured superb pitching! Although the decision came at the hands of the bullpen, Trevor and Max Fried faced off (the second all-Socal matchup of these playoffs) and both pitcheres took scoreless games deep. The Braves walked off, 1-0, in the 13th inning at Truist Park, with yet another former CIF player the hero of the game with the walk-off hit--Freddie Freeman. The two teams combined offensively to record a postseason "first"--11 innings with neither team scoring.

The Athletics beat the White Sox, 5-3 and that forces a third game.

The Rays have beaten the Blue Jays, 8-2, at Tropicana Field and now advance to the next round. Congratulations! And then there were 14.

The Yankees also eliminated the Indians at Progressive Field, winning their second game, 10-9.

And the Asterisks think they should be getting more praise. SMH

Braves just won the second game at Truist Park by beating the Reds, 5-0. Braves pitching has really been something!

All AL division series spots have been claimed, as Oakland beat Chicago today at the Coliseum, 6-4, winning their first playoff series since 2006.

Game 2, Marlins vs. Cubs at Wrigley Field, was rained out today.

It was also their first "winner take all" win in a series since the 1973 World series!

I am impressed by the Marlins! They had to go through so much early with all those players with COVID. The Cubs were one of the best teams in baseball in August & September.
