Chris Paddack made his debut today and looked sharp in 2 innings. There is a lot riding on how he does this year. I think it is a good thing he knows he will have to stay sharp to still have a shot because our pitching is so much deeper this year.
Also our No. 1 pick from the 2020 draft, Robert Hassell got his first preseason hit. I am always anxious to see our top draft picks get their first chance to show what they have. _________________ "Baseball is an allegorical play about America, a poetic, complex, and subtle play of courage, fear, good luck, mistakes, patience about fate, and sober self-esteem." - Saul Steinberg |

Well, the kid from Glendora, DJ Peters, has made his debut and homered. He's gotten some work in at first base.
Also, Trevor made his first preseason start as a Dodger, throwing two innings, on Monday vs. the Rockies. And Walker looked superb today, unlike his usual rusty self early on, in a 1-1 tie with the Jints. _________________ "The Dodgers have always occupied an enormous place in the history of the game. We got a glimpse of Blake Snell in a Padres uniform for the first time. He said it was emotional thinking about how the last time he was on the mound was in the World series and of course, that was facing the Dodgers.
El Niño brought Slam Diego to Peoria, with a big one in a game against the Diamondbacks on Tuesday at Salt River Fields.
CJ Abrams, 20, is our second ranked prospect and is in camp to remind fans of El Nino when he first showed up 3 years ago. Yes, Abrams is a shortstop too but maybe he could learn a new position! And his speed is crazy, so I look forward to seeing him blur by in person someday! Article from padres.com
And I am liking what I see from our young lefty MacKenzie Gore again, like last year. He threw today in the game against Texas. You know the saying - you can never have too much pitching, and we aim to build on that this year. _________________ "Baseball is an allegorical play about America, a poetic, complex, and subtle play of courage, fear, good luck, mistakes, patience about fate, and sober self-esteem." - Saul Steinberg |

Is this the last call for Mickey? It's weird but I usually track him every year in the preseason games and here he is in camp again and I didn't even notice. But he did homer twice in the Phillies' win over the Yankees yesterday. He will be vying for a crowded outfield job again. This year makes it 5 years since he was drafted. Here's the link. |

Thanks for the report, Sunnyblue. We sometimes get so focused on Cactus League and the Grapefruit League seems so far away, but there are reasons to follow it, too. _________________ "Baseball is an allegorical play about America, a poetic, complex, and subtle play of courage, fear, good luck, mistakes, patience about fate, and sober self-esteem." - Saul Steinberg |

Very good starts by CK (yesterday) and Trevor (today)--yes, against those Padres. The big talk about Clayton is how much looser he seems now that the burden of not winning a title has been lifted off his shoulders. _________________ "The Dodgers have always occupied an enormous place in the history of the game. Too bad Manny did not play in the game against Bauer. His career numbers against him are awesome. I admit a small sample size but nobody thinks with them in the same division now, he will not get a lot more opportunities. _________________ "Baseball is an allegorical play about America, a poetic, complex, and subtle play of courage, fear, good luck, mistakes, patience about fate, and sober self-esteem." - Saul Steinberg |

Yu Darvish has been looking really good. I am super excited to have him this year. I think he will be a great addition. _________________ "Baseball is an allegorical play about America, a poetic, complex, and subtle play of courage, fear, good luck, mistakes, patience about fate, and sober self-esteem." - Saul Steinberg |

You heard about Bauer joking Manny was ducking him?
DB, I agree, Clayton is looking awesome and seems to be so much more relaxed. I'm sure he's happy he doesn't have to hear those same questions like he does every year.
Also, Belli's shoulder is on track so we'll be able to see him soon.
This is the weekend, coming up, to remember that we no longer have to set our clocks forward to keep up with the game times. lol With none of us traveling back and forth it's not as big a deal this year, but if you want to tune in, at least you'll know.
My last comment for this thread is, remember how a year ago right now, we were wondering what would happen as they kept playing preseason games, and COVID was getting to be a bigger deal? They pushed it as far as they could. |

Yes, I sure do remember that. It seemed like shutting down was going to be inevitable but then they were out playing every day until they could no longer.
Trent Grisham has a left hamstring injury which will hopefully be minor, so we are anxiously awaiting word. El Niño, well, what can I say about him but he never misses a chance to excite fans with his playing. In the game today vs. Arizona, he scored from second on a pop-up. Nothing about him surprises me!

I have not had much opportunity to look in on the Angels lately, but I hear Shohei is healthy and making a good transition back to the team. I mostly keep my eye on my Padres and our nearest competitors, the Dodgers! _________________ "Baseball is an allegorical play about America, a poetic, complex, and subtle play of courage, fear, good luck, mistakes, patience about fate, and sober self-esteem." - Saul Steinberg |

Yeah, Shohei appears to be looking good on both sides.
Shades of Kirk Gibson, 1988.
I've just got a couple of notes here:
-Trevor pitched with one eye shut again today.
-Clayton has been named Opening Day starter for the ninth time in his career. It was ten years ago that he enjoyed his first OD start, and it certainly would be his 11th this year but he missed two of those Opening Days on the (then)-DL.
This year, there actually appeared to be some competition. But in the end, he is the ace, and he will carry his legacy to the mound in 2- 1/2 more weeks to get '21 underway. _________________ "The Dodgers have always occupied an enormous place in the history of the game. Someday it will be Walker taking that ball on Opening day but for now, I'm glad it's the Kid!
Also - Cody is "shoulder ready" & gets his first start today. Corey has been awesome, and he homered yesterday for the 5th time in the last 6 games. |

Even though I don't have too much interest in these games, I did have to listen for awhile today while doing housework. May seemed to have his best stuff. He punched out 6 Padres including El Niño at 100 MPH! Game still ended in a 4-4 tie. |
