So many 50-year anniversaries of baseball events this year, whether on or off the field.
The one that impacted the sport from its humanitarian side was the tragic plane accident, on December 31, 1972, that killed Hall of Famer Roberto Clemente.
I was just beginning to really pay closer attention to the game, and had just started seventh grade as the '72 season came to a close. Of non-Dodger/Padre players, Clemente was one of my favorites.
May he rest in peace and his legacy of giving continue on. _________________ "The Dodgers have always occupied an enormous place in the history of the game. If the Yankees are the most successful team in baseball history, the Dodgers are the most essential. Their legacy is unique."

I wasn't born yet but I can imagine that was a really special time in major league history. I do know it was the last of the era before free agency took hold. |

Yes, it sure was a good time in baseball. Most of the players had some personal integrity and this was a really good example of one. I started following baseball closely in 1968 and this was just a few years later. I really wish we could have a lot of things about those days, back again. R.I.P. I read an article about wreath laying in Pittsburgh for him. Here's the link |
