I'm sure there will be a bit more media attention focused on the Toreros this year! |

Saturday! My doors open at noon and this will be very informal, bring your own everything. We can celebrate the start of a new season and no interference from football. _________________ "Baseball is an allegorical play about America, a poetic, complex, and subtle play of courage, fear, good luck, mistakes, patience about fate, and sober self-esteem." - Saul Steinberg |

I have a mild cold and will not be joining at Fowler Park tonight, but if I can rest up and follow the game from home on line, I may be OK to get out tomorrow! I hope I can. |

Toreros win!--7-3 in home opener over Nebraska.
Will post more when home. Looking forward to tomorrow! _________________ "The Dodgers have always occupied an enormous place in the history of the game. If the Yankees are the most successful team in baseball history, the Dodgers are the most essential. Their legacy is unique."

Such a good feeling to have baseball games to go to again, and keep up with. All the action of opening weekend is like Christmas all over again! I know I missed last night's game but I had to rest up with this cold, and I felt so much better today I could get out for some viewing with a few good folks!
I peeked in on Stanford-Fullerton State last night because FS opened at home and won. Though they are not ranked this year I have to wonder how they will do since there are times they came out of nowhere to make some noise.
Poor San Diego State is 0-2 though but when you open on the road at ASU that is a tall order. |

Our poor Aztecs are the only team that had some serious pain this weekend! 0-3 now but at least through with the Sun Devils! _________________ "Baseball is an allegorical play about America, a poetic, complex, and subtle play of courage, fear, good luck, mistakes, patience about fate, and sober self-esteem." - Saul Steinberg |

Here is my question now, has anyone figured out why Max didn't play this weekend? Is he injured? Or what's going on because I can't find anything about it anywhere. I'm excited about getting to the Hawaii series next weekend but I'd like to know. I don't know what the heck was going on with the pitching today, but the Toreros and Cornhuskers tied, 16-16 after 7 innings.
Thought I might be able to go to today's game because I had the day off for Presidents Day but then I remembered I had a dental appointment. lol |

And the Aztecs' home opener is tonight, which we had planned to go to. But, it may be rained out? _________________ "Baseball is an allegorical play about America, a poetic, complex, and subtle play of courage, fear, good luck, mistakes, patience about fate, and sober self-esteem." - Saul Steinberg |

If you went, tip of the cap, but I chose not to drive across town in rush hour for a game that may be rain-delayed or postponed. Just watching on-line now, and Aztecs are already down 3-0 in the first.
Sunny, thanks for posting about the tied slugfest yesterday, but I was curious about the rules and how the game ended without a winner. It turns out that Nebraska's travel constraints necessitated the game to end after seven innings. _________________ "The Dodgers have always occupied an enormous place in the history of the game. Did not go, and it appeared to be for the better. Not only did they lose but it was pretty drizzly through most of the game. Though the Aztecs are now 0-4 they have been in every game they played so far. Next game coming up will be Friday for the Tony Gwynn tournament but Friday and Saturday have rain forecast, too. So we shall see when they get the games in to be played. _________________ "Baseball is an allegorical play about America, a poetic, complex, and subtle play of courage, fear, good luck, mistakes, patience about fate, and sober self-esteem." - Saul Steinberg |

I saw the updated schedule and also noticed the Hawaii-USD game has been moved up from a night game to a 2 p.m. start. I'll be working this afternoon, but will play things by ear as the weekend progresses. _________________ "The Dodgers have always occupied an enormous place in the history of the game. This weather is really throwing my schedule off too!
Another series to keep an eye on is being played at Vanderbilt this weekend when they host UCLA. |

Home from 3 days in Peoria and ready to take on the SDSU game in a few minutes. I will wait for your reports to find out everything that happened while I was gone. But I had to make it to at least 1 game of the Gwynn legacy tournament. _________________ "Baseball is an allegorical play about America, a poetic, complex, and subtle play of courage, fear, good luck, mistakes, patience about fate, and sober self-esteem." - Saul Steinberg |

It should be announced that the Aztecs got their first win of the season over the weekend! After a tough opening week. |

And last night was the first Aztecs game of the season we attended! They got another win - come-from-behind, 3-2 over Hawaii. Jonny Guzman pitched 5 crisp innings. Maddox Haley, that freshman from Madison pinch hit in the 8th and singled in Poncho Ruiz with two outs. A couple of local guys doing well for the team. Still a bit chilly weather out there but again, it is still February. It just feels so good to have live local baseball back! _________________ "Baseball is an allegorical play about America, a poetic, complex, and subtle play of courage, fear, good luck, mistakes, patience about fate, and sober self-esteem." - Saul Steinberg |

I don't know who saw any of the games, but ouch, that was a painful trip to Oregon for the Toreros! Swept in 4 games this weekend. And they get Oregon State next on Tuesday. Just some tough competition up in the PNW, I think they're finally getting to play quality teams. |

Yes, and notice how SDSU won a series on the road at UNLV? The Aztecs scored 44 runs in three games! But, it is the MWC. _________________ "The Dodgers have always occupied an enormous place in the history of the game. Well, with rain in the forecast around Socal, and a big WBC weekend coming up, this thread is going to be a little more quiet on a big college weekend. It will be time for us to get back to this one more after tonight. I have been checking in on both SDSU and USD.
The Toreros cannot win on the road. They have a 1-8 record when they are not playing at Fowler Park. Current W-L is 8-10-1 but they are 7-2-1 at home. The Aztecs are not any better, in fact, worse. 5-11 as of this posting with a losing record both at home and away. And plenty of rainouts for both teams. _________________ "Baseball is an allegorical play about America, a poetic, complex, and subtle play of courage, fear, good luck, mistakes, patience about fate, and sober self-esteem." - Saul Steinberg |
