Well since the Angels thread is already up, I will start this now.

Blake Snell will be the opening day starter when the Padres host the Rockies this coming Thursday.

And we already have a game time change. Instead of a day game the opener will be moved to a night time start thanks to rain today! I am so ready to make the adjustment though.

Ugh! An Opening day (night) loss, but as we were reminded, the same thing happened last year. But the weather was better then! Cool gray drizzly and some rain all through the day, which mostly stopped by the time the rescheduled game started. I admit I was worried when I heard Blake Snell was the starting pitcher because he was so inconsistent last year. But this time it was more on the bullpen (Domingo Tapia) as my Padres lost to the Rockies, 7-2. Still - was fun anyway even though we shivered a bit, not just because of the cold air but because of the pretty cold offense from our boys - except for X-Man, who had 3 hits.

C.J. Cron did a lot of damage with 4 hits for the Rockies. But on the other hand, they rang up 17 strikeouts even in spite of winning.

We already have an IL move. LHP Adrian Morejon started the season on it when the roster was finalized, because of his left elbow strain. I am hoping to someday see what he can do when healthy because I have a really good feeling about this kid.

Split the 4 games with the Rockies. Offense seems to be having trouble really getting on track but they have only played 1 series after all! Diamondbacks into town tonight. Game time will overlap with the Aztecs playing in the national championship game!

I guess no comments from other posters, lol

I know it will be quite a while before the Padres and Dodgers play each other but until then I have to assume you Dodger ladies have interest since we are the main threat to your boys.

Meanwhile I have been to 2 games this year and my boys lost both of them. So, they split a series with the Rockies over the weekend, then won a thriller over the Diamondbacks in the first game of that series. David Dahl hit a game tying home run in the 9th, and Ha-Seong Kim hit the walk-off. It was an exciting lift to our fans after the Aztecs had just lost in the national championship game. But last night, my Padres lost, 8-6 as I was there with my son and his girlfriend. Why is it still so chilly at night? I have never felt such cold weather here for so long.

I'll post! Smile How about Manny making MLB history with his "first" against the Diamondbacks? (No, I didn't post it in Milestones!) Laughing

That. Lol.

First road trip of this season for my Padres started in Atlanta and so far, the teams have split 2 games. There are 2 more on tap including tomorrow night for Easter. Michael Wacha gets the ball for S.D. tonight.

I was happy with our weekend series won over the Braves, but not so much with being shut out in our first game of the series tonight in New York. I guess the Mets are thinking they owe us something going back to that final game at Citifield last October! They got to Yu in the middle innings and beat my boys, 5-0, behind Max Scherzer.

My Padres lost the series in N.Y. but finished the road trip with a 4-3 record.
Not happy with scoring only 6 runs against Mets pitching but I am sure they wanted to make a statement against us this time. Now the boys are back home for a 4 game series with the Brewers, starting tonight, and then the Braves. Good to have a few competitive teams back to back, what with winning the series in Atlanta and now having to face the Brewers, then Braves again so soon but at home.

It sure felt good to get a win after losing the first 2 games of the series at home to the Brewers! They won in extras on Thursday night, then routed my boys on Friday. Today, it was a 10-3 win for my Padres. Yu gets the ball tomorrow in hopes of getting his first win of the season.

I really am pretty disgusted with the series this weekend, overall. Starting with a loss on Thursday, a blowout loss on Friday, finally a big win yesterday, and a real tough 1-0 loss today. Yu pitched his heart out (9 Ks) but my boys could not scratch that 1 run across the plate that they needed. Trent Grisham left the bases loaded in the 9th when I thought we really might have a shot at tying and then winning the game. To make things worse the new balk rule led to the only run scored by the Brewers. In fact the wrap on the game on the team home page mentioned that this was one of the most bizarre losses in franchise history! Article from padres.com

Neither of our teams is doing well! I'm sure you can at least be happy about the return of El Niño this week! He might provide a jolt. And you'll be getting him back in time for the Dodgers series in 2 weeks! I guess our pitchers had better be prepared.

Yes, I am anxiously waiting for that! I was busy blasting our offense just a few minutes ago with a long post and then poof! - it disappeared. To try and remember some of the key things I was saying, my Padres beat the Braves today, 1-0, but that was only because we got a super start from Nick Martinez! So far this week, back-to-back shutouts (Sunday & Monday) and back-to-back games with only 1 run scored. I guess the only way you can make 1 run stand up is if your pitching shuts them out!

El Niño has returned! Says he is on top of the world - article from padres.com

Sure he did only go 0-for-5 in his first game back but he did make a great defensive play! What is more important is, our Padres won the game, 7-5 over Arizona. Somehow his presence seemed to motivate his teammates? It was a long wait. I sure am excited about getting out to Petco to see him in person sometime in the next couple of weeks.

Trent Grisham was 2-for-3 last night and a big part of the win.

Dodger ladies, my team did its best imitation of your game today but they still fell short Surprised in a 9-0 loss in Arizona. El Niño finally got a hit. But they went back to their scoreless woes. It is maddening! Good thing this division is weak so far this year. Lots of baseball left to be played, though. That is the upside.

Hang on to your hats because my Padres have won 3 of 4 games in Arizona now and they scored 12 runs in the last 2 days! Surprised

Big Joe is finally back and made his first start of the season last night, and got the win. Matt Carpenter hit a HR and had 5 RBI today. Yu started the game and was dependable as we usually expect from him, but left in the 6th inning because of leg cramps.

The big weekend series in Mexico City against those Battery Chuckers is coming up later this week! But that is after they play 3 in Chicago at Wrigley Field.

It's funny how we're just two weeks away from the first meeting of the year between our two teams, and we've been mirroring each other in many ways. Likewise, this weekend the results were similar on each day in both series. It may be a turning point for the NL West. The next two weeks will determine a lot!

Yes, I am feeling much better now although I know the Cubs are going to give us a fight. With the Mexico series this weekend and then the Dodgers next weekend, it will be a stretch with a lot of good competition coming at my boys.

Blake Snell gets the ball tonight and he has not impressed anyone yet. We thought maybe this would be a reset but he is 0-3 with an ERA over 6. Rolling Eyes

Exclamation I am upset! After 2 games of scoring runs, the Padres go back to being shut out again tonight at Wrigley Field! And for Blake Snell to have a decent start but they could not score any runs in support, and then the bullpen blew up too - well just not a good day. What an inconsistent team. Cubs won the game 6-0. Sad

To finish up about the road trip before our international games in Mexico get started - well, my Padres lost the series in Chicago. Sad Fortunately it is still early in the season and the Battery Chuckers are worse off than my boys, but they will get to play each other today and tomorrow. I wonder who will take advantage of the elevation the most! Joey gets the start today and Yu, tomorrow.

Quite the slugfest, huh, Cathy? Smile That's what you get playing at a higher elevation than Denver! But it came out in your team's favor. Let's see if there's a repeat of that today.

The Mexico City series is over and my Padres won both games - of course I am elated - but now back to sea level, they are starting a series at Petco tonight against the Reds and finally, the day has arrived where El Niño will be returning to play in his home ballpark for the first time since 2021. Fans are mostly ready to forgive, and I expect he will get a nice welcome back!

We welcome the Dodgers to Petco Park this weekend after taking the series over the Reds this week. The loss came in the middle game of the series and was by a 2-1 score. My Padres scored 15 runs off Reds pitching in the other 2 games.

Good first game of the series! Clayton & Yu facing off and Yu got the best of it. El Niño with 2 HRs and my Padres came away with a 5-2 win.

As I am sure you expect, I am not in a very good mood today. It was a great time last October winning the NLDS but since we turned the page to 2023 we are back to the same old results, losing series to the Dodgers. Runners stranded, closer blowing a save, things like that - seems they cannot get over the hump and win a series against a team they need to beat. And cannot expect that my boys will face them again in October to get that chance. Dodgers did the things they had to do to win. Padres move on to Minnesota losing another game in the standings. Still have 3 more series with L.A. starting with one being played on the road next weekend, but remember there are fewer games between them this year. Maybe that will help my boys, Lol. The next time they meet at Petco Park will be sometime this summer. Just got to keep focusing on fixing things.

My Padres had a short 3 game trip to Minnesota which I thought was odd - a standalone trip, only 1 series - before coming all the way back to California. They have a day game tomorrow after splitting the first 2 games with the Twins. Then going to L.A. for a rematch with the Dodgers. Hope this series goes a little bit better than last weekend.

On to L.A. this weekend and I can assure you after 2 games my boys are not doing any "ravin' " at the Ravine. Confused

Dodgers just outplayed us last night and today - Padres scored 2 runs each game. But a silver lining is Snell having another good start in the first game, and even though Joey was not at his best today, he hung in there and kept the damage limited. Our guys just did not have enough offensively against 2 good Dodgers pitchers. Solo home runs are not going to get it done, I hate to say.

Falling 2 games under .500 is not acceptable though yes, it is still the middle of May. Ryan Weathers will be called up to make the start tomorrow. I hope he will make Padres moms happy.

Royals will be in San Diego this coming week. My Padres had better not struggle against them.

If it makes you feel any better, I can empathize--that malaise you're seeing is what my guys experienced last October! Confused

I am completely disgusted and ready to tear my hair out! Evil or Very Mad

How does a team with this lineup not only keep failing to get big hits but also take so many bad at bats at the same time? If they were having good ABs and just not getting breaks that would be one thing. Getting swept by the Dodgers and being shut out on the same day are double negatives on such a special family day!

I hope the Royals end up being just what the Friars ordered.
