First 2 games of the series with the Royals, 1 win and 1 loss. Last night the boys got a win to start the series behind the outstanding pitching of Michael Wacha. He took a no hitter into the 8th inning before losing it. He also had 11 Ks (career high). It was a game where my Padres looked like they were getting back on track, but then tonight, the Royals took a 5-0 lead very early off Seth Lugo, who pitched horribly. Our boys fought back and made it close, but still lost, 5-4. Very disappointing. There will be a day baseball played at Petco tomorrow for the rubber game. _________________ "Baseball is an allegorical play about America, a poetic, complex, and subtle play of courage, fear, good luck, mistakes, patience about fate, and sober self-esteem." - Saul Steinberg |

The lowly Royals won the series at Petco this week after my Padres won the first game.
I am feeling really bad about this team right now. Every day we hear the same things, like, "just wait" or "we are better than this, we will come around." Whatever is going on is a big disconnect and they have already had closed door meetings, like just a couple of days ago. When they are asked about them by the media, a player will say, "we know what we have to do" or something like that. And then they come out and lose again.
There were 2 articles in the last 3 days about it on padres.com - Padres frustration builds and Padres need to show up
They should stop talking and start doing it.
I just read about how Manny is getting really surly, and I am sure he is tired of being asked the same questions but he does get paid very well to answer them and to deal with frustration. Right now he is sure overpaid. And with a minor fracture in his hand from an HBP, it is unknown right now if he is going to spend any time on the IL.
And with the Red Sox coming into town this weekend it will sure be a wild atmosphere at Petco again. Just not sure what to expect. I know the X Man will be happy to see his old teammates. _________________ "Baseball is an allegorical play about America, a poetic, complex, and subtle play of courage, fear, good luck, mistakes, patience about fate, and sober self-esteem." - Saul Steinberg |

We have been there, you know. So in a sense Dodger fans can feel for you too. We know what you're going through. |

Yes, I know. Now after losing to the Red Sox, 6-1 (Blake Snell blown up again!) my boys are one game out of last place. Every day I read the same articles about desperation, need to find their way, being optimistic they will turn things around. I can believe some of that but I am not sure just to what point. I think there are a lot of things that need fixing and now starting pitching is shaky, too. For a while it was all that was keeping the team in some games. It does not help much that it was only 2 weeks ago they were a couple of games out of first place and then lost the series to the Dodgers. It got worse the next 2 weeks and now, here we are. Some analysts are saying things will get easier because eventually the schedule will not be as tough, but still they lost a series at home to the Royals! And I think they need to prove they can play and compete with the top teams, not just wait for the schedule to get easier. I know this is part of the peaks and valleys of a long season of baseball. But I do not like the tone it is setting and I have an uncomfortable feeling about the way things are going in the clubhouse. One more thing, Manny has now officially been put on the IL. _________________ "Baseball is an allegorical play about America, a poetic, complex, and subtle play of courage, fear, good luck, mistakes, patience about fate, and sober self-esteem." - Saul Steinberg |

I feel safe to post again! My Padres finally figured out how to win a game by doing everything right! They were able to avoid being swept by the Red Sox this afternoon, winning 7-0 and roughing up Corey Kluber. A strong start from Michael Wacha with 6 scoreless innings, Rougned Odor had a bases clearing double, then great relief pitching to finish it off, and it felt like they put it all together.
On the road now to D.C. for 3 games, Yankee Stadium for 3 games, Miami for another series and then back home first weekend of June to play the Cubs. I am disappointed that my boys not playing at home on Memorial Day but not just that, they do not have a game scheduled at all that day. It will be used for travel between New York & Miami. _________________ "Baseball is an allegorical play about America, a poetic, complex, and subtle play of courage, fear, good luck, mistakes, patience about fate, and sober self-esteem." - Saul Steinberg |

That is 2 in a row now! It feels good to say that for the first time in a while. Juan Soto returned to his old stomping grounds and homered (1 of 4 by my Padres) - Yu got the win, Josh Hader with his 12th save, San Diego for the win, 7-4! _________________ "Baseball is an allegorical play about America, a poetic, complex, and subtle play of courage, fear, good luck, mistakes, patience about fate, and sober self-esteem." - Saul Steinberg |

Padres finally won a series! Feels like it was a really long time since that happened! I loved the comeback spirit in today's game when they were down, 6-5, and Rougned Odor blasted a 3-run homer in the 8th. Now, leaving D.C., they start a weekend series with the Yankees tomorrow in New York! I look forward to seeing how that goes! _________________ "Baseball is an allegorical play about America, a poetic, complex, and subtle play of courage, fear, good luck, mistakes, patience about fate, and sober self-esteem." - Saul Steinberg |

So far, a split with the Yankees, Padres won on Friday night, 4-2 and then back-to-back Baseball at Breakfast games (Yanks won the middle game of the series). Will post more later. Then it will be off to Miami. _________________ "Baseball is an allegorical play about America, a poetic, complex, and subtle play of courage, fear, good luck, mistakes, patience about fate, and sober self-esteem." - Saul Steinberg |

Lost the series in New York. Moved on to Miami where the teams split the first 2 games. They are playing the rubber match now, Baseball at Breakfast, and are winning so far. Definitely need to start winning series again. This team looked like it had turned the corner, then every time they have a setback. You never know what you are going to get. _________________ "Baseball is an allegorical play about America, a poetic, complex, and subtle play of courage, fear, good luck, mistakes, patience about fate, and sober self-esteem." - Saul Steinberg |

One of the most frustrating things as a baseball fan is watching a team that is so inconsistent as mine is! I went from seeing them score 10 runs in Miami on Thursday to coming home, and just scoring 1 run last night. They wasted a terrific start by Michael Wacha, and lost to the Cubs, 2-1. For the record both teams had almost the same record when they started the series last night, at Petco. Both teams still under .500. Seems like they should not keep struggling. I know it is a long season - that seems all I can hold out hope for. _________________ "Baseball is an allegorical play about America, a poetic, complex, and subtle play of courage, fear, good luck, mistakes, patience about fate, and sober self-esteem." - Saul Steinberg |

I'm going to be watching your game tonight with a couple of Padres fans friends. It'll start right after our 4:15 game on Fox ends. _________________ "The Dodgers have always occupied an enormous place in the history of the game. Well they were doing everything right last night and if you judged them based on a game like that - then all is very well. But it is not as we know.
Manny is back and was activated before the Cubs came to town. They still lose 2 of the first 3 games. Today, it was another 7-1 game with my boys on the wrong end of that. _________________ "Baseball is an allegorical play about America, a poetic, complex, and subtle play of courage, fear, good luck, mistakes, patience about fate, and sober self-esteem." - Saul Steinberg |
