Elly de la Cruz has also hit his first major league home run, also off the Dodgers, in the Reds' 8-6 win on June 7 at Great American Ballpark.
I probably just didn't feel like posting it at the time. But congratulations to him. _________________ "The Dodgers have always occupied an enormous place in the history of the game. That kid has gotten a lot of hype and from the little bit I have seen he looks to be an exciting player. I remember the talk about him in Arizona Fall League last year. He has so much speed. He is injecting a lot of life into that Reds team. _________________ "Baseball is an allegorical play about America, a poetic, complex, and subtle play of courage, fear, good luck, mistakes, patience about fate, and sober self-esteem." - Saul Steinberg |

Okay, I'm not happy with the game results, but in the Dodgers' 5-4 loss to the Phillies at Citizens Bank Park tonight, Jonny DeLuca recorded his first major league hit...
Congratulations, kid! _________________ "The Dodgers have always occupied an enormous place in the history of the game. If the Yankees are the most successful team in baseball history, the Dodgers are the most essential. Their legacy is unique."

Pirates outfielder Andrew McCutchen recorded his 2000th career hit today. He singled off New York starting pitcher Carlos Carrasco in the first inning of the Bucs' 2-1 win over the Mets at PNC Park today to accomplish the feat.

Congratulations to Yu! He won his 100th career game on Friday night, as my Padres won 9-6 over the Rockies at Coors Field. _________________ "Baseball is an allegorical play about America, a poetic, complex, and subtle play of courage, fear, good luck, mistakes, patience about fate, and sober self-esteem." - Saul Steinberg |

Congratulations to Yu.
And yet another tip of the cap. Tonight at Chase Field, Phillies catcher J.T. Realmuto hit for the cycle in Philadelphia's loss to Arizona. He's the 17th catcher in MLB history to do so. _________________ "The Dodgers have always occupied an enormous place in the history of the game. D'OH! CT3's 100th career home run--a grand slam!

OMG! I was just sitting down to watch the Dodgers game and I noticed that Elly de la Cruz has hit for the cycle! He's only been in the majors like, two weeks!

That is a phenomenal accomplishment and what speed he has! Congratulations to Elly.
While we're at it, our young Dodgers righty Emmet Sheehan got his first major league win last night beating Houston, 3-2. Remember his first major league start was last Friday night and he pitched 6 no hit innings. In his first 9 innings of work he only gave up an infield hit. And this win, yesterday, was against the defending world champions team. So let's hear it for Emmet! Nice start to your career. |

And now, congratulations to the veteran--Freddie! Freddie! Whoa--Domingo Germán just pitched the first perfect game in Major League Baseball since 2012! The Yankees RHP dominated the Athletics in Oakland, as did the offense backing him up; New York won, 11-0.
From MLB.com:
Quote: | After allowing 17 runs (15 earned) over 5 1/3 innings in his previous two starts, Germán entered Wednesday with the potential to make the wrong kind of history by becoming just the fifth pitcher in franchise history to allow seven-plus runs in three straight games. |
The article also notes that "The 'A's had not been no-hit since July 13, 1991, in a combined effort by four Orioles pitchers, which was the longest active streak in the Majors."
Felicidades! _________________ "The Dodgers have always occupied an enormous place in the history of the game. If the Yankees are the most successful team in baseball history, the Dodgers are the most essential. Their legacy is unique."

Remember when there were several no hitters in the first half a couple of years ago? This perfect game was the first no hitter this year and we are almost at the halfway point. I was watching the game since my Padres had played in the Eastern time zone. It just shows you that nothing is predictable in baseball. _________________ "Baseball is an allegorical play about America, a poetic, complex, and subtle play of courage, fear, good luck, mistakes, patience about fate, and sober self-esteem." - Saul Steinberg |

I didn't realize that was the first one this year, probably because there have been a few cycles already this season. Those used to be more rare, too. _________________ "The Dodgers have always occupied an enormous place in the history of the game. Congratulations to Doc! The Dodgers skipper, now in his eighth season of managing the team, notched his 700th career win with last night's 5-2 win over the Pirates at Dodger Stadium. Not so cool that the Dodgers' official home page doesn't even mention that, though.
However, I loved reading his comments from dodgerblue.com:
Quote: | (Dave Roberts) had been on the verge of the managerial milestone since Friday, but was unaware of the situation.
“I didn’t realize it,” he said. “(Max) Muncy and a couple of the guys came through the line and said, ‘Congratulations.’ I had no idea what they were talking about until I got into the office.
“It’s a testament to just a great organization. I certainly had no idea. Just happy to win a baseball game. Great players and a great organization, so very grateful.”
Roberts was the latest career milestone the Dodgers have celebrated this season. They previously held a clubhouse toast for Kershaw reaching his 200th career win, Freddie Freeman’s 300 career home runs and later 2,000 hits, and J.D. Martinez also joining the 300-homer club.
“It’s great, and that shouldn’t be lost,” Roberts answered when asked about the players being aware of teammates’ accomplishments.
“It’s a great point, because in baseball, with the players, they’re very focused on their own performance. Which is certainly expected. But when you have a group of guys that can focus on that but also other peoples’ accomplishments and celebrate those, it speaks to being a great teammate.
“We have a group full of guys that do that. Like I said, I’m very fortunate.”

It makes me feel proud to read that. I know how deeply he respects being a part of this organization. He wasn't in it from the beginning like Tommy was, but he's definitely bleeding blue now. _________________ "The Dodgers have always occupied an enormous place in the history of the game. Young Padres shortstop Matthew Batten hit his first Major League home run in the Padres' win over the Mets at Petco Park yesterday. It was a 2-run dinger in the 2nd inning off David Peterson and it turned out to be the difference my Padres needed to win the game. Congratulations to Matthew.
