Well, with Will Smith on the concussion list, the Dodgers have a new back-up catcher!

It just so happens that Austin Wynns was designated for assignment by the Jints last week, cleared waivers, and then was picked up by the Dodgers over the weekend.

For those who may have forgotten, Austin and Justin played together at Mira Mesa Youth Baseball League, and his dad and I have known each other since elementary school. So there's another grandson of Kearny Mesa in the majors!

That double in his first AB was nice going the other way!

Just as my Padres are about to get a 4 game series in Arizona started today the Diamondbacks are designating MadBum for assignment. I think he is probably close to finished since he was so much less effective. Article from mlb.com

And now that's official--MadBum has been released by the Diamondbacks.

Well, Austin was designated earlier this week...just in time for the Padres series. Sigh!

Sheesh. I barely got to post about Dylan Covey and now he's been claimed off waivers by the Phillies.

We'll never forget you, dude.

As pointed out elsewhere, two pitchers have been designated for assignment by their respective clubs following involvement in recent off-field controversies.
Anthony Bass and Matt Dermody.

Also, Raimel Tapia was released by the Red Sox.

A player who is near and dear to us Dodger fans' hearts - Charlie Culberson, has been DFAed by the Braves. I guess the circumstances brought the Braves some negative publicity.

Yes, I just read that. Sad

Nabil Crismatt has been designated for assignment, too.

I see where the Royals have just sent Aroldis Chapman to the Rangers. I'm OK with the Dodgers not getting Chapman the last few times it's been talked about. We will still possibly need relief pitching, but it has been good to see the bullpen get more on track over the last couple of weeks. Once AV can figure out how to control his emotions and stay within the game, I would like to see him get another chance at the major league level. His stuff in general is too good to give up on him.

Yes, I think it's time to post in the Cheaters thread about this new player for the Dodgers because he did at least express some regret for his part in the scandal, even though that was a couple of years ago. Interesting I noticed that he and Austin Barnes were high school teammates at Riverside Poly so I wonder how Austin feels now?

The latest I've heard now is EK predicting that Shotime goes to the Jints at the deadline! Mad The Halos have changed their story a few times. First they were doing everything they could to let fans know they were all in on re-signing him. Now they are open to and listening to offers. It probably had something to do with how the Angels played over the last couple of weeks.

Kike is back with the Dodgers! What do you think of that, DB? I wish they were thinking more about pitching, though.

Well, he can't wear 14 this time!--was my original thought.

I mean, I think we all like him and welcome him back as a fan favorite, but at the same time, he'll have to accept whatever role they dole out to him instead of being an everyday player like in Boston.

We know now the Angels are not sellers! And the Dodgers haven't done anything to address pitching, they only got Amed Rosario.

But look at the Angels adding Lucas Giolito! I was hoping for the Dodgers to get him.

I am not surprised Shoh-time is still in Anaheim. He said a few days ago he really wants to make the playoffs with the team, and it would be nice to see that happen but they have their work cut out for them. It would be good for baseball to have him on the big stage and also helpful for his cause to bump up his value for the big contract that's coming. Whatever team that is.

By the way, Kike is wearing No. 8 in honor of Kobe. It's a nice gesture.

But you forgot to make note of who the Guardians obtained for Amed! Thor, whose time in blue was brief and challenging. I was glad they were able to dump his contract, although I had hoped the guy would find his groove again. At this point of the season, we don't have time for investing a lot of work in it if the team can obtain another starting pitcher.

Is it me - or am I missing something, but the Dodgers got Lance Lynn today along with Joe Kelly returning to the team, for little to send to the White Sox. But I still am not excited. I expected something more of a top line starter. Lynn has an ERA over 6!

I'm hoping Mark Prior is a miracle worker--not sure how this move really helps us. But I could be proven wrong.
