Per my previous last post in this thread, Colon is really tearing it up...

And Rich Hill isn't doing too badly at age 40, either!

I've been wanting to post this for a couple of weeks!

Bill "The Spaceman" Lee tried out for the Savannah Bananas at age 75!

I saw this a few days ago (oldest players on Opening day rosters this year) and thought of this thread - article linked here

Obviously Albert Pujols is oldest but look who No. 4 is! Exclamation

Happy 49th birthday to Bartolo Colón! El viejo!

Some facts from mlb.com:

Quote:
During a 21-year Major League career, the stocky right-hander known as “Big Bart” accumulated several distinctions: He was the last member of the Montreal Expos to play in the Majors, he was the last active pitcher from the 20th century, and he was the oldest player in MLB history to hit his first career home run. On top of all that, if Colón were to suit up once more in a big league uniform, he would become the sole four-decade player in Major League history whose career started in the 1990s. The ageless wonder last appeared in 2018, but he spent the ‘21 season in the Mexican League hurling for Acereros de Monclova as a 48-year-old.

Bring him back to Los Acereros! I would love to see that.

So let's see if Tio Alberto can actually hit the 700 HR mark in the next six weeks of the season, because he's not coming back next year.

He hit another since, so he's inching a little closer. It's hard to imagine anyone in baseball who is not pulling for him to get there.

Albert is now at 694 home runs with over a month to play! Let's see if he can do it! I would rather see him than A-Rod up there over 700.

Also, Bartolo Colon has announced his retirement. Good for him. He was very good in the peak of his career & entertaining in his later years.

Tio Alberto has hit #698 in tonight's Cardinals win over the Reds at Busch Stadium. It's a cinch.

FYI, I haven't intended to turn this into solely his thread Smile and will start one about his career separately. But for now, the countdown is on.

I saw where Pirates pitcher Rich Hill is the oldest guy on a starting roster this coming season, at age 43 (as of today) - so happy birthday to him too.

I forgot to post this earlier this week - I am getting a new appreciation for Nelson Cruz, our DH, who became the 3rd oldest player with 6 RBI in a game. The two who are ahead of him are Hall of Famer, Carlton Fisk, and, gag, Bobby's son.

"Big Sexy" has announced that he plans to retire as a Met! He just turned 50 on May 24! I guess that's another birthday we missed! Happy belated cincuenta and upcoming retirement.
