Major League Baseball has announced it will celebrate Lou Gehrig on June 2 every year, beginning this year. This ties in with MLB's work to raise awareness of ALS. Article from mlb.com

I like the concept; I just wonder how they came up with that date.

But it still seems strange that the day he died is when they'd honor him.

Tomorrow is the inaugural Lou Gehrig Day around MLB. Here is how he will be honored.

I didn't know until I read this, that June 2 is also the exact date he became the Yankees' starting first baseman, back in 1925.
