The Braves have designated RHP Mike Foltynewicz for assignment, a move that surprised many given he was their No. 1 starting pitcher two years ago, but has struggled with velocity issues.

My Padres have re-acquired first baseman Yonder Alonso, who played for them from 2012-2015. In return they sent cash to the Braves. Article linked here

Since we are now close to the trade deadline which is tomorrow, here are a couple of moves my team made over the last couple of days:

They added RHP reliever Trevor Rosenthal, and though I am glad they are addressing the bullpen problems I was sad to see OF prospect Edward Olivares go to the Royals in this trade. They will also send a PTBNL with Olivares. Those of us who got a glimpse of him during spring training were imagining the excitement he and El Nino could bring to the team for years to come. Sure he is just a prospect now but so was El Nino, 2 years ago. They are both exciting players. Article from mlb.com

We have also picked up Mitch Moreland from the Red Sox - first time we ever traded for a DH! Smile To get him, we sent two prospects, OF Jeisson Rosario and IF Hudson Potts to the Sox. Moreland's numbers are really good (.328, .430/.746) so he will add some extra pop to the lineup. I am excited to see what he can do for us. Article from mlb.com

And I see your Padres weren't finished yesterday, either!

Bye-bye, Ross. The Dodgers have traded RHP Ross Stripling to the Blue Jays in exchange for two PTBNL.

Side note: It appears El Gato will stay in the rotation to replace him.

Talk was that the Dodgers would stand pat at the deadline since they have more depth in starting pitching this year with a mix of veterans and rookies, so I don't really see this move as changing anything. Ross may just need a change of scenery.

My gosh, A.J. was making moves so fast my head was spinning from Sunday to yesterday! Mike Clevinger is the biggest, and we already had some pretty solid starting pitching. I am looking forward to seeing how our "new look" team does as I already liked what the previous team was doing!

Got a little backed up on this one--but the Battery Chuckers have finally released the Kung Fu Panda after his second run with the team.
